this song is sequenced in the right spot on the album...i just really dont like it. its cheesy, i think we can all agree on that. its the type of cheese we need to figure out. by the seconds verse im ready to get up and get a beer in preparation for the next ass kicking song. the first 3 songs both help and hurt this song. they are so much better than this song it kinda makes me wanna skip this.

I think the sequencing could benefit from the simple inclusion of a high-hat count like in the video version (a la QOTSA Smooth Sailing -> I Appear Missing).

Speaking of the video version, an upgraded digital TV source in now up for those with g-force access

They're not better, they're just tonally entirely different so the change is jarring. I feel as if they cancel out each other a bit.

You've just said it's in the right place on the album, and then gone on to argue why it isn't. I like it, but everything else around it does nothing complimentary to bookend it. MFS is a really strong song, and so is Sirens, but they're so entirely different, they cancel each other out. Also, MFS is a short little number, so its strengths are entirely "swallowed whole" by the over-5-minutes-long Sirens.

Edit: I just realised I already said this to you in a much less wordy way, so... yeah.

Slow build. Up on all charts, but it's slow going on the rock channels. From 25 to 19 on Active, from 18 to 17 on Alternative, 23 to 21 on Mainstream. That's closer to the way Life Wasted was moving in week three than, say, Just Breathe, but as has been pointed out, Sirens is significantly longer than either of those tracks.

The big thing is that it's #4 on the relatively small Triple A after just three weeks, and is unquestionably going to top that chart before it's done (Mind Your Manners peaked at #37 on that chart). I mentioned before that Triple A success can be a door opener to the AC and top 40 channels (all of which dwarf the rock channels), but that hasn't happened yet.

Altogether it's gotten just this side of 4,700 plays in three weeks. Manners received 7,000 plays in the same time frame.

They were pushing it on their AC channels like crazy for a while, but none of the other fish were biting.

i never said it wasnt in the right place, i said i didnt like it regardless of where they put it on the album. i think after the first 3 fast songs mike acoustic guitar sounds like a perfect time to calm the record down, they just do it w/ a shitty song.

OK, I misinterpreted "this song is sequenced in the right spot on the album". I just don't agree that it was the right song. I'm not sure it calms down anything, because it's not mellow, or subtle, or soft. It's quite a melodramatic, big statement, despite its "ballad" label. It's really not a "Parachutes" or even a "Just Breathe". Those are coolers. IMHO. The song needs to go in a spot where another emotional height is needed.

yeah, maybe 'calm' wasnt the right word, but its the change of direction after the first 3 that works. i just dont like it.

Is the version for the video different than the album version (the one streaming on iTunes)?

I got so used to the video version, it is taking me a little time to enjoy this version as much.

Yeah it's different, the video was a live take.
