"Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Donald J. Trump

I have a pretty good idea whose woods these are, believe me.
And let me tell you something, my people say he’s a complete nobody.
This guy lives in the village. So what if he sees me stopping here?
I dare him to sue me! I dare him!

And by the way, this snow is pathetic.
These are by far, the least downy flakes ever!
I hear they had to import them from Canada.
I don’t know. Maybe they did. Maybe they didn’t. We’re looking into it.

My horse – he’s the most incredible horse, seriously,
I have the greatest, the classiest horses –
My horse doesn’t even know what the hell we’re doing here.
The horses love me though. They do.
They’re always shaking their bells at me, it’s very loving.
It’s a beautiful thing.

Let me tell you something, these woods are an embarrassment.
They’re not dark. They’re not deep. They’re nothing. They’re for losers.
And I cannot wait to sue this guy.
I cannot wait to sue this guy.

Have you guys already discussed Ted cruzs citizenship? Where did you all land on that?

I'm surprised trump hasn't made an issue of it.

I mean, he has made an issue of it in the past, but--if I remember correctly--it was a talking point right before Scalia died, and it faded pretty quickly after that.

Personally, I think that requirement for being president is out-dated. If I were trying to keep him out of the White House, though, I don't think it'd be a bad thing to try and flesh out--it's just so vague that a court could rule in your favor.

I was talking to my neighbor today and he brought up the election.

I told him I care far more about the local vote here on whether or not to remodel our neighborhood's elementary school than I care who becomes president. After thinking about it some more, the school thing is like 1000x more important to me.

I don't see my day-to-day life changing much (if at all) whether it be Trump, Sanders, Clinton, whoever. I could give a shit what any given candidate thinks about abortion, transgender bathrooms, or their recollection of Nancy Regan's stance on AIDS research...none of that impacts me.

Someone convince me I'm wrong on this. If I had to choose between voting on the president or a measure in my state, I'd choose the local issue every single time.

This is pretty selfish.

Those issues fall so far below taxes and national security (in my opinion) they're not even worth presidential candidates discussing during election campaigns. Aren't these issues handled at the state level anyway? Look at this new law in NC right now. You think Obama supports it?

No, social issues are definitely impacted by federal politics.

How much control over it does the prez really have though?

Seems to me that a lot of the hot topic issues vary from state to state (drugs, abortion, gay marriage...).

How often do you vote for things that are contrary to your self interests?

And before you say you'd do it for the greater good ... Well, the greater good theoretically creates a better world for you to live in, so that's part of your self interest.

So again, how often do you vote in a non "selfish" way?

Back to my point: There are issues that I don't feel impact me, so I discard them from my decision making process. Bigger fish to fry (from where I stand).

Gay marriage became legal nationwide thanks to the supreme court, made up of justices appointed by the president.

PS - Washington state has gone democrat by a decent margin for nearly 30 years, and it will happen again this year regardless of who I cast my measly vote for in the prez election.

On the other hand, I can impact the local schools and public transit measures with my vote here in my city/county/state.

I'm sorry I said anything. I was initially taken back by your statement which sounded like you were saying that you don't care about any issue that doesn't directly affect your day to day life.

I stand corrected. And that's great for them. But not an issue I'd base my vote on. I guess I'm selfish for caring more about how much of my paycheck is going to taxes (and whether or not those tax dollars are spent on something that I feel is worthwhile).

This is why I avoid politics in real life conversation, and rarely dabble with strangers in online unofficial pearl jam message boards ;)

Korematsu v. United States was decided by a Supreme Court with 8 Roosevelt appointees. Be careful what you wish for.

I don't have any problem with what Bammer said. Everyone has priorities in politics, and that's arises from just being human. He's also right that your vote is likely going to have more weight in the smaller local elections, and it's also easier to participate in the political process at those levels. It's certainly true for me since I live in one of the most left wing districts in one of the most right wing states.
