What do people think of Hamil as an actor? He's often panned in the original trilogy, but I know people loved his Joker voicework.

that's a good question..'used future' seems to be back on the agenda though, so that can only be a good thing.

And whoever mentioned practical effects, apparently that soccerball droid isnt CGI, they built a working version of it.

Yeah, the droid looked good. It's the ships that were the problem for me.

Well, the falcon has been upgraded and it's safe to assume the new republic's military was too, those are new x-wings...i thought they all looked fine. Be nigh on impossible to do that shot over the water, using models..they looked real and lived in to me.

ironically, you could do that Falcon shot with cameras, like they did in the original trilogy. The camera travelled around the model.

The pilot helmet appears to retain some of the retro styling, but appears to have advanced a little in design and the condition is pretty good, so to me that suggests that the rebel alliance's military has advanced and improved somewhat in the last 30 years.

Well this time seems to be about shades of grey..seems to be a new republic and remnants of the empire, but who are the bad guys? the stormtrooper guy isn't happy about his role/what they're involved in..is he part of the empire or the new republic?
all these questions and more..a whole bloody year to wait.

People are reading a whole lot into this trailer.

Turning SW into a "shades of gray" moral narrative does seem kind of interesting. And it makes sense that they would go down that road; that kind of moral revisionism being applied to classic "good vs. evil" stories is really in style right now. I just hope that grayness doesn't slip into cynicism, which would be kind of a bummer. But at the same time, I think a hefty dose of darkness and grittiness might be just what SW needs at this juncture.

Agh, I dunno. I have a lot of cognitive dissonance going on with this one.

You're doing great, dont worry.

I like the idea of these characters struggling with their identity. The rumored struggles of Luke and Boyegas characters lead me to believe that they actually took the time to come up with a well written story that what made the original trilogy so great. It was not just pew pew pew pew and effects.

Despite all of my doubts, I just keep trying to remind myself that Lawrence Kasdan was a writer on this. That gives me hope.

It must really suck to be JJ Abrams. Because whatever is good about this movie will be all because of Kasdan (and to a lesser degree, whatever we decide is from Arndt's original script). But everything that sucks will be because of JJ Abrams and absolutely no one else. Poor guy. It's hard realizing a life-long dream, I guess.

Hasn't JJ basically said the Prequels sucked and werent really star wars? The guy gets it. I think he will make a fine film, guys.

Not necessarily. It depends what actually winds up being good about it. But I get what you're saying; the problems are going to be blamed on the newcomer.

I'm looking at that positively. Imagine Spielberg at his best, had been allowed direct a star wars..it's like that only with better effects and bigger budget.

What can possibly go wrong.

I do too. I think hiring JJ Abrams was genius. I just don't think there's anyone else out there who could a better re-introduction to Star Wars film. He absolutely gets it.

or Kevin Smith because everything about Star Wars makes him cry.
