Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
The Sox really busted their asses in Minnesota this week, so much so that the Twins lovefest in the RM MLB thread has been silent for 72 hours (even though it was a 2-1 series). That team that showed up there can make the playoffs.

I'm not arguing that point overall, although against the best hitting team in the majors they just posted 3 ER in 15.1 innings of work.

I don’t even like Kimbrel but it was a mistake not re-signing him once his market collapsed.

If this provides a spark, then great! Maybe they can try to trade for middle-relief help, which they also desperately need. But if he's 100%, why isn't he starting? He only has 8 career relief appearances, which worries me a bit.
I've been doom and gloom lately, but I promise to be as optimistic as possible considering the Sox are only 2 games out of the Wild Card.

I mean, this is idiotic. If it works great, but this just shows(to me, at least) that Henry keeps pulling the rug out from under Dombrowski.Simple Torture wrote:If this provides a spark, then great! "We will wait until mid-season to address the bullpen" has led to "I aint spending another dime on this team brah" come mid-season. So now we are taking away from the rotation(and that dead 5th spot is part of the reason the bullpen has been such a mess) to fix this problem.

In his 14 years as GM in Detroit, the Tigers finished 29th in bullpen ERA, 30th in FIP, 30th in xFIP, 29th in fWAR. In his 9 years as the GM in Florida, the Marlins bullpen finished 27th in fWAR. In his 4 years as the GM in Montreal, the Expos bullpen finished 23rd (out of 26) in fWAR.numbers wrote:I mean, this is idiotic. The bullpen sucks because Dombrowski chose not to address it and to allocate money elsewhere instead, just like he has everywhere he's been for the last 30 years. Putting that on the owner of the team with the highest payroll in all of baseball is a little odd.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
Also the team with the highest ticket prices, concession, parking etc. I know he's always had issues with the bullpen, but if you've followed their maneuverings since the WS, it always was said that they would address the bullpen midseason, but then Henry came out all of a sudden the other day and said no more payroll. Also, this a trend that has manifested itself every time they've won the WS, he raises all prices and then wont add payroll. I get that it's kind of crazy to complain about the payroll of this team, but they have the money(despite Henry claiming they are losing money) and they certainly have no problem charging fans the highest prices in baseball.philpritchard wrote:In his 14 years as GM in Detroit, the Tigers finished 29th in bullpen ERA, 30th in FIP, 30th in xFIP, 29th in fWAR. EDIT: Also, I dont think this is the right baseball move.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
Anyone else get the impression the last couple nights that the players have kind of given up after they didn’t do anything at the deadline?

The Sox are only 5.5 games out (of the wild card) with 47 games left. They only need to pick up one game every ~8.5 games. I am talking myself into this dysfunctional team.
