I just want uniform adherence to the rules. If the standing President gets to put a justice on the Court, than the Republicans fucked America in 2016. If the incoming President gets to put a justice on the Court, than the Republicans are fucking American in 2020.

Well, the "rules" state that the President gets to nominate and that the Senate gets to consent to the nomination. Without both of those things, there can't be a new justice. Whether it's a good thing for the Court's ideology, or whether it's a politically wise tactic, are very good questions that should draw skepticism, but in both cases the GOP followed the rules of the Constitution. And the Democrats would follow the rules too if they respond by packing the court.

OK, so now I'm infuriated by Senators acting like Biden would destroy American if he put 2 new Justices on the Court.

I get much more infuriated by the horseshit that comes out McConnell and Graham's mouths than I am by what they've actually done.

Sexual preference is transphobic because lesbians should not refuse to have sex with transwomen or something. This is about a month old. Its hard to keep track of these things.

I haven’t gotten very worked up about this nomination, mostly because it is inevitable but also because I trust the institution that is the courts more than I trust the executive or legislative branches right now.

I get that there are potentially big problems for my political ideology should she be confirmed but I think it has also been mentioned in the past that the courts, particularly the Supreme Court, don’t operate in some unhinged manner set on cultural upheaval precisely because they have neither the purse nor the power to execute federal laws. Their power stems from our societal acceptance of the court as the final arbiter. The court is not likely to do anything to upset that dynamic lest it become an advisory board.
