my take on King Animal is that it's almost a great album but I hate "Worse Dreams"

Thats a good example of a song that seemed awesome when they released a clip and the whole version was a let down. I dont particulary hate it, but it seems there is a better version of the song they didnt record.

it's not as bad as the worst PJ songs imo, but the lyrics just make me cringe unfortunately and the mix isn't punchy enough for me

Also, for some reason, the production on Earthling doesnt bother me so much. I guess it seemed fitting for what Ed was trying to deliver.

Sure, lyrics are a bit slf-help Hallmarky, but, WTF? That bordering on cheese, heart-on-sleeve earnestness has been there pretty much from the onset of the band.

Same; Earthling as a whole didn't have much staying power for me but these two songs in particular I still listen to all the time. Try is the craziest sounding thing on paper, and it completely works.

Nobody has. He wrote Sirens And Mind Your Mannners. The music isn't the weak link in any of his songs.

Also this won't move enough in sales for Watt to get properly paid. I'm guessing it's a different time and getting writing credit is a offset in a way. Something like Wreckage probably finds its way into film etc. Really happy for Watt he got writing credit on a Pearl Jam album good on him.

That Stone interview was great, it's always enjoyable to hear him talk about the band and their musical process.

I also found this funny:

This was my favorite part:

All the drifting we’ve done is important. Now, No Code is one of people’s favorite Pearl Jam records, but at the time, a lot of fans felt like, what is this? Where are they going? If we had worked with Andrew on our fourth record and continued to work with him, we might not have gone into some places that we needed to go.

The bolded part seems logical, since Andrew would have been 6 at the time.

I know what he meant, but I had to chuckle a bit.

I think the fact that I've listened to all the clips so far (barring the metal door leak) precludes my membership in the No Leak Club, but I'm thinking I'm going to adopt the club practices as best I can from here on out. The conversation has been fun so far, illuminating at times, but at this point I'm feeling like the idea of just getting the CD like I did in the old days and having it be (mostly) a surprise sounds kinda nice. Maybe even waiting a week or two to react/respond.
