I also try to remind myself of how good Super 8 is (I'm not sure if I've declared my love for that movie on RM before. It's great.). I think my hatred of his Star Trek abominations blinds me to my true feelings about him as a filmmaker sometimes. Realistically, the classic Spielberg emulation in S8 was a pretty great audition to make a SW movie.
Maybe this will be great. God I hope so.

I also wonder how much Lucas is having an influence on it. I know he is on as a creative consultant or some shit, but I wonder how much influence he is trying to have over things. Hopefully he is out to lunch during any filming of dialogue scenes.

George Lucas on how involved he is: "Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do."Strat wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Strat wrote:or Kevin Smith because everything about Star Wars makes him cry.

he's a fantastic choice. I'm going to go ahead and credit him with all the good stuff that happens, just to be differentdurdencommatyler wrote:I do too. I think hiring JJ Abrams was genius. I just don't think there's anyone else out there who could a better re-introduction to Star Wars film. He absolutely gets it.Strat wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:It must really suck to be JJ Abrams. Because whatever is good about this movie will be all because of Kasdan (and to a lesser degree, whatever we decide is from Arndt's original script). But everything that sucks will be because of JJ Abrams and absolutely no one else. Poor guy. It's hard realizing a life-long dream, I guess.
Hasn't JJ basically said the Prequels sucked and werent really star wars? The guy gets it. I think he will make a fine film, guys.

Damn it, those star trek movies are so much better than all the other schlock in that franchise.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I also try to remind myself of how good Super 8 is (I'm not sure if I've declared my love for that movie on RM before. Has anyone ever said why Abrams is only doing the first installment of the trilogy? Seems like a weird decision to have one guy do the first and another guy do the next two.

Dude, Abrams's Trek is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more schlock than the other stuff. That stuff may seem cheesy to some on an aesthetic level, but it is way too intelligent to be called schlock.stip wrote:Damn it, those star trek movies are so much better than all the other schlock in that franchise.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I also try to remind myself of how good Super 8 is (I'm not sure if I've declared my love for that movie on RM before. Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
who are the other two directors?
Assuming the design/affects teams are the same maybe they expect each of the directors to bring a particular tone to the respective film. And Abrams is an inspired choice for the bridge movie.

I could understand having three different directors, but I'm pretty sure Rian Johnson has already signed on to direct both 8 and 9.stip wrote:didn't the original trilogy have 3 directors?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Has anyone ever said why Abrams is only doing the first installment of the trilogy?
