as a tween in the early 90s, I fell in love with PJ because they were a drummer's band; from No Code / Yield onwards, I had to come to terms with the fact that I'd feel less and less like that, the older I got; luckily I think PJ got a lot stronger in other areas that I learned to love equally, but if they'd stayed stagnant or continually made Backspacers or Lightning Bolts I would have lost interest quickly

Donald, I spoilered your post. We try to keep PJ chat at least a little NSFW, even though we are mostly working from home right now.

I was listening to this the other day, and while this interpretation doesn't explain every line, I was struck at how much of this song seems to be about confronting your mortality. That was always present in my prior listens, but I don't know that it ever quite jumped out as an organizing principle before

I just moved my vote to 4. I can't compare this to other 4's in Pearl Jam's catalogue, but I KNOW that I am enjoying the hell out of this song and I was embarrassed when it came out. Just now finding out that the lyrics could have been inspired by the death of Doloris O'Riordan makes me love it that much more.

Definitely my favorite on the album. I had to sit with it for a some time for it to really click in. This is a great song might be in all timer mix for me.

I realized tonight that this song has a lot in common with Got Some.

Has a lot in common with the opening 4 tracks from Backspacer

I’m liking this song a lot more lately, but that “She was a stunner, and I am stunned” part..Woof. That’s some Backspacer-level shit :shake:

Yeah it's just not my cup of tea. Ruins the flow of the album for me

I agree.

I suspect the reason this one isn't coming together in rehearsal is that it's just not that great of a song.

I think the sequencing of the whole record is pretty wonky, with spots where the flow just feels off.
