i have watched a few vids of that Detroit show. I know his voice can be hot n cold certain nights, but he seemed to me to be on the shitty end in Detroit. and to me he did seem a little restless/agitated. it's all ex post- perception now, of course. i am not trying to stake some claim that he 'must have' been on something. but he didn't strike me as looking as sharp in that Detroit show as some of those TOTD vids or other more recent SG performances. he seemed sloppier. perhaps a lot of fatigue, he is old now. perhaps something more. perhaps nothing at all.

Yeah, there are certainly a few moments in the Detroit videos I've watched where Chris does seem kind of zonked out (whatever the cause).

I am too, Dev, but with the recent details coming out surrounding his death, and the known side effects of that drug, I sincerely don't believe he was in the right frame of mind to consciously or intellectually make that decision.

I don't believe sober Chris would have entertained suicide. It'll go down as a suicide, but being so drugged up who knows where his mind was. Probably only a fragment of himself.

For some damn reason, his bodyguard gave him a couple more pills when obviously he was already doped up on something. Under these circumstances, it's impossible for me to say he wanted to kill himself. As more details come to light and stories are told from those around him, I don't personally believe he was suicidal, but that is only my opinion. He was taking a potentially dangerous drug with some serious side effects at higher doses.
I think you might be getting your timeline mixed up. The bodyguard was fixing his computer then gave him 2 pills which he may have been using to get to sleep. It was after this that wife talked to him and got worried that he was repeating himself and slurred speech. No one has claimed he seemed to be on something prior to the 2 Ativan.
I'm mainly going off this story:

Vicky Cornell said she spoke to her husband before and after Wednesday night’s concert and noticed during the later conversation that he was slurring his words.

“He was different,” she said. “When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him.”

According to the police report, Kirsten was in Cornell’s room about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to help him fix his computer. Afterward, Kirsten gave Cornell two Ativan pills, “which victim takes for anxiety,” the report said.

Vicky Cornell told police she spoke by phone with her husband about 11:35 p.m., according to the report.

If true, he was on the phone with her about 5 minutes after ingesting the pills. Most pills take at least a little bit to dissolve and travel through the body, so that's why I assumed he was already on something.

But I don't know enough about this type of drug or how quickly it's absorbed. Maybe someone who is familiar with them can enlighten us?

Where he walks to there is nothing to trip over, but it looks like he loses his balance for a brief second. Maybe it's a reach, or maybe it's a sign.

Sitting here like uninvited company
Wallowing in my own obscenities
Share a cigarette with negativity
Leaning on the pedestal that holds my self denial
Firing the pistol that shoots my holy pride
Sitting here like wet ashes
With x's in my eyes and drawing flies

As everyone is saying... This is certainly through the prisim of the fact that we know what happens just a few short hours later... But there seems to be something going on during Outshined... around 16:19... Again, it could be a stretch, maybe the dude was just really feeling the song that night... Maybe it's the angle and the shitty camera work...Maybe it's just the the want and desire to make some sort of sense out of the tragedy. I forgot who said it earlier, or maybe it was in the other thread... Now that that shock is over, this is certainly hurting more today than it did yesterday...

FWIW (nothing) He does seem out of it from the stuff I've seen. Pure asshole speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if maybe he had already taken Ativan before the show and then took more afterwards, leading to some kind of semi-psychosis. Or not. It sucks either fucking way.

He sounded poor on the Detroit vids. No doubt about it. Hard to say why though. He could have just not been into it emotionally, doesnt mean it was drugs.

Lots of good comments here and in the other thread - I liked the comments from 98up the most.

I've taken antidepressants (SSRI group) and one of the side effects is that it was extremely difficult to come. Ativan is from the Benzodiazepine group and a quick internet search shows it can affect ability to stay erect.

This is of course just a theory, but - he was by himself, without his wife, wanting to relax... I think it is possible he decided to try experimenting with asphyxiation as he may have felt he had to resort to an extreme approach to combat erection problems caused by Ativan. It's also possible that the OTHER side effects from Ativan (tiredness/blurred vision/lack of balance or coordination) then prevented him taking off the band.

If there's a note, then that would be the explanation. But if there's no note I think what I said above could be what happened.

I'm outraged at your speculation. I took an SSRI too and yeah, fucking impossible to get off. Had to fake it with a girl once just because I felt sorry for the pounding she was taking.

I wasn't trying to outrage anyone, just trying to think of what might have happened.

I know. People seemed to get pissed at all the speculation yesterday. I think your theory is actually pretty plausible. The main facts that I expect to be released are that Chris was hooked on his prescription medication.

He'd just been home with his wife and kids the night before so probably didn't need to get off and flew in to Detroit the day of the concert, maybe he was just tired on stage?

That video is going to be analysed to hell and back by fans for "signs", when in reality he could just be tired or have a cold or an upset stomach or there could be 50 other performances where he looks exactly same but no one's noticed because no one's looking for anything.
