But also maybe Mel Gibson, if that ever materializes!
WB prides itself in being a filmmaker-driven studio. I am convinced they're still interested in giving directors full control to carry out their vision-- it's just that they're now picking safer directors whose visions aren't impenetrable/commercial suicide.durdencommatyler wrote:I wonder if they can land Mel without full creative control. Everything that has happened with their DC films though says otherwise. WB might be a "director's studio" but so far their DC division has not been that way.theplatypus wrote:WB prides itself in being a filmmaker-driven studio. BvS is where it all started to go off the rails.theplatypus wrote:What do you mean? From what I remember, the only thing that says otherwise so far is the Suicide Squad editing fiasco, and even then we have Ayer standing by the final cut.
MOS & BvS are 100% Snyder.
Good point, I wasn't factoring in all the people who'd abandoned DC projects in the immediate aftermath of BvS. Though I guess I don't feel qualified to speculate on what happens behind closed doors.durdencommatyler wrote:BvS is where it all started to go off the rails.theplatypus wrote:What do you mean? I'm not in the room where it happens, obviously. But everything I'm hearing/reading/seeing from the pundits and the people who are "on the inside" paints a different picture about Ayer. Of course, he "stands by the cut" publicly. He knows where his bread is buttered. But we also know that the firm that cut the trailer for the film ended up doing the majority of the theatrical cut of SS. What that thing became is light years away from what we were shown early on and what we expected during production. Let's not forget the reshoot drama.
Then there's Ben Affleck. And The Batman. And the absurd number of directors that have pulled out of other DC projects. Shit, even Matt Reeves had a lough shouting fight with DC at his initial interview for the job. He walked away at one point. Maybe they're walking that back now. But it's clear there wasn't a "grand plan" in place from the beginning. There weren't Phases like Marvel had.
There's even talk now about how they had to rewrite and reshoot elements of Justice League to "lighten the tone." Snyder may have had control of Mos and BvS but he's lost some moving forward. It's part of the reason he's talking about walking away from all of this after JL.
I still haven't seen the film, but yeah. I totally agree with you. It's bonkers.theplatypus wrote:Good point, I wasn't factoring in all the people who'd abandoned DC projects in the immediate aftermath of BvS. It's amazing, the effect that BvS's critical and audience reception had. Even recognizing the film's problems, it's still puzzling to me.
Because he wants to work again.theplatypus wrote:What do you mean? From what I remember, the only thing that says otherwise so far is the Suicide Squad editing fiasco, and even then we have Ayer standing by the final cut.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
While he’s not a part of “The Predator” and his “The Legend of Conan” seems to have stalled, Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that the “Twins” sequel “Triplets” may start shooting by year’s end.
