Not bad. It was fine. The guy playing Silvio almost ruined the whole thing for me.

It was a mixed bag of performances, that's for sure.
I thought James Gandolfini's son was good. But the movie didn't do a very good job of showing "the making of Tony Soprano", which is what the tag line promised I would witness.

It didn't do a very good job of anything.
That Silvio performance ranks among the worst ever.

I watched The Tender Bar last night. I enjoyed many elements, particularly Affleck's performance, but it was all a little labored. Every character spoke like a character from a book. And yeah I'm a little sensitive right now (dead cat) but I did find the emotional beats compelling.

Matrix 3.
- It's interesting how different it is from 2. I think they took notes on the reaction to 2 and made some last minute changes.
- 1st, the effects are MUCH improved.
- 2nd, it's not much of a martial arts movie.
- 3rd: less pseud babbling.
- The action is still terrible and pointless and stupid, but at least it looks good. It's amazing just how pointless and nonsensical the action scenes are in both these movies. Just so detached from telling a story.
- Hugo Weaving is so fucking awesome in these movies. He just owns every goddamn scene and makes you root for him. Agent Smith is the only one having any fun in these movies. Its a shame that he's barely in the sequels. He's so funny in the climactic scene especially.
- I think its true that Smith is the good guy in the film. The Wachowskis missed the point of their own damn movies.
- All in all the sequels aren't as terrible as I remember, but they still aren't very good, and that's mostly due to them being very generic hollywood movies at the end of the day, not because of the weird experiments.
Question: When you watched the original Matrix, Did you think you were watching a "martial arts movie"? I mean sure, there is martial arts, but it didn't feel primarily or secondarily like a martial arts movie to me. Because the second film is definitely a martial arts movie, and it fucking sucks because of it. Which is another reason I feel like the filmmakers misunderstood their own movie.

It sucks how much of the 2 sequels hang on one really stupid and lazy line early in the second movie:
"Upgrades."

King Richard.
Well, its a huge meh. I dont buy anything about how they tell his story. Still it was engaging enough to see it. Its light, its kinda fun, will smith is alright.
But this movie is not worth of any kind of award.

The Argonaut wrote:Props to Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Lost Daughter. It's very good. It didn't seem to me like the kind of movie I'd be into, but I totally was. Never overwrought, well acted, tense throughout, and very engaging. Big props to Maggie Gyllenhaal for making this as good as it was. Even after watching it, it still feels like a movie I shouldn't have been into. But, yeah, wow, good movie
I really liked this movie.

I'm looking forward to it, the book is also really good and Colman is so talented.
