It's astonishing. Their creative decline was so swift and comprehensive, it's as though they abandoned what made them a good band almost overnight.
Seeing them perform very poorly while drunk in 2009 has probably clouded my judgement (or improved it). It was like watching a band distintegrate live in person. I was certain they would be broken up within a year. I guess money talks.

It seems like Ed and Stone have no musical chemistry. I wonder if old wounds make them more distant over time. The 4 non-Ed members of Pearl Jam obviously gel really well (see: Temple of the Dog reunion) and seem to be excited about playing music. Stone and Cornell had this great connection. With Ed I feel like he still cares a lot about music; and Stone does too - but you put them into a room together and Ed just stops giving a fuck. And Stone prob just tunes out also. Like, even though they patched things up enough over time for the band to continue on, they still don't actually like each other - or have a desire to get together to play with one another. You should want to play with your bandmates. I don't get that sense from them two.

Opinions are fine to have, y'know. No harm in fair and reasoned discussion.

I don’t recall Turning Mist causing such an uproar. It probably did but you guys realize this is a holiday single right? What do you expect?

I remember watching the live webcast of the Lollapalooza 2007 show, considering the remote possibility of it being their last. It happened to be the final gig of the '07 tour, which felt like a victory lap of sorts after the massive 2006 run. They obviously continued on, but things have never been quite the same since.

Don’t forget Sonic Reducer. There have been a handful of great songs on the holiday singles but usually they are just OK for the most part imo.

I'm still not convinced this isn't a new proper single, which 10C simply got early access to, given the way they promoted it via FB, Twitter, etc - something I don't recall them ever doing for a 10C-only release.

Hopefully it is just a holiday single but from sessions for the new record that Jeff was talking about. At least they were in the studio.

I think they're trying to have it both ways. This is intended to be a single, but released it early to the fanclub and called that release the holiday annual single.
It wouldn't be the first fan club single to later be properly, commercially released.

That's just a crappy McCready solo song. And that's pretty much how it was perceived. I can't remember a single person going ga-ga for it.

Yeah I will agree on that.

Interesting that Ed was the focal point of the band in the beginning, and now he's like dead weight, dragging them into mediocrity at every turn.

Ed is inarguably the problem with modern Pearl Jam.

Like I said, an Ed-less album is the only thing they could do that would get me excited again.

This band with Chris Cornell in front (TOTD) was hot fire. You could hear how tight they were.
Ed's solo tour in Europe last year sounded great.
But yet something un-magical happens when he joins the other 4 guys to record.
