So the only thing I know Lana Del Ray from is a botched release of her previous album. What makes this different?

Pixies will probably have the best album of the year.

2019 so far has been a good one for new albums in my opinion. Here's a list of my faves so far (alpha order):

Chastity Belt - Chastity Belt
Chris Brokaw - End of the Night
Jake Xerxes Fussell - Out of Sight
Jesse Malin - Sunset Kids
Lisa Morgenstern - Chameleon
Mattiel - Satis Factory
Moon Duo - Stars Are the Light
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Ghosteen
Pixies - Beneath the Eyrie
Rose City Band - Rose City Band
Sebastian Plano - Verve
Strand of Oaks - Eraserland
Sturgill Simpson - SOUND & FURY

All those are 4 to 5 star albums for mine.

Weird how people like different things, huh?
I get that but nobody will know who lizzy is in 5 years from now.. and saying that, I kinda like her famous single

I get what LDR is trying to do.. n she's talented n all, its just that Adele stuff is not my thing, I can't get into it

I don't seed much of a comparison between Lana Del Rey and Adele.

Also, I'm not sure what longevity has to do with anything. Lizzo's album is great. It'll still be great even if she never makes another record. Just because Bruce has been around for a long time doesn't mean his new album is better because of it. The rest of his career is meaningless in this context.

I have nothing against Bruce. I like his new album just fine. But it doesn't hold a candle to Lizzo's for me.

But I've also never been a huge Springsteen fan in general. So don't listen to me. What do I know?

I enjoyed my few runs through Fishing for Fishies, but I haven't heard that one as yet. These dudes are prolific.

I dunno, they both sound the same to me, but I only heard a couple of each of their songs (ldr and a)

So the whole lizzy album is good?? Figured she'd be a one hitter

Your mileage may vary but yeah I think the entire record is great. It's not very long and every track fits. It's cohesive but the songs are all unique and strong. And it's infinitely listenable to me. I've listened to it several times in a row on car trips and not tired of it at all.

I think Springsteen as two great albums. And then a bunch of fine albums with some good songs on them. Lizzo's album is great front to back. So really what I'm saying is, at BEST, he's gone two albums better than Lizzo. And maybe not even that.

More "certified good for working in the office" music here. Junkboy is a British project band that do folksy downtempo stuff. Their latest is Trains, Trees, Topophilia, an all-instrumental affair that melds guitar and strings to quite lovely effect. I snagged this off Bandcamp today and have been enjoying the laid back swooning ride all afternoon.

There's not much available on yootoob but here's Old Camera, New Film as a taster:

Continuing on a theme (loosely "soundtracks to a day at the office" I suppose)... I've been quite the fan of a lot of the recent works of Connan Mockasin and he contributes a little to the VA album "Self Discovery For Social Survival". This one is "an experimental soundtrack to an experimental movie", essentially a few bands and artists have been asked to respond to footage of some pro surfers with music as a "celebration of surf's aural and visual appeal".

Lot's of good stuff here from Dungen (one track), Allah-Las, Peaking Lights and Mr Mockasin (all with numerous tracks). I've found myself coming back to this one pretty regularly lately. Here's "Bad Boys" by Connan and Andrew VanWyngarden:

And here's the trailer for the film itself - Self Discovery for Social Survival:
