That's not fun for me. I've never been much for trolling. If I don't like something, I just try to stay away from it. So, I'll just say Kayne West really isn't my thing.

And while I certainly respect those that love his music (especially someone like KD who speaks well and has extremely well considered opinions, and has earned nothing but my admiration and appreciation), I'll never understand how anyone (not even Beck) could seriously use the word genius to describe Kayne West.

But whatever. I'm sure a lot of folks around here feel the same way about me and my non-stop Annie Clarking. So, there it is.
joey, our love affair has run its course, i'm afraid. i will always look back upon our time together fondly.
I'm not okay with this. But I'll heal. I just need some time.
my beautiful dark twisted tragedy
no, no. OUR beautiful dark twisted tragedy, pal.
i'm just kidding, joey. e-bros 4-eva, even if your opinion on this matter is horrible.

I always find it funny when people who don't listen to rap listen to stuff like Kanye and are all "this isn't good rap!!!" Kanye is not my favorite rap artist by any means (my thoughts on him are elsewhere in this topic) but he's generally pretty good at what he does.

I'm not sure I'm picking up what you're putting down here. So, because I don't listen to a lot of rap, I'm not allowed to respond to/criticize/have an opinion on the rap I do/have listened to?

I wasn't responding to anyone in particular. Just something I've noticed in general. I was more saying that people who dislike Kanye personally will try to say his music is bad when one really has nothing to do with the other and they are obviously not fans of the genre as a whole in the first place. Kanye just really brings out a lot of the worst in how people talk about music because he's such an asshole.

Ah, I gottcha. I had a feeling I was missing what you were getting at. I'm on the same page now.

And I will concede that maybe if I listened to more rap in general I could appreciate some of what he does in the studio on an intellectual level. But just as a person who loves listening to all kinds of music, I have a hard time listening to his. Regardless of personality. Maybe I'm just a lame, aging white guy, but there is a lot of other rap that I find far more entertaining and desirable. Granted most of it is older.

On the flipside, Orpheus, I just don't see how people can consider Kanye's rapping to be passable in a world with Lamars and Gambinos.

Pearl Jam would like to congratulate artist Don Pendleton and Art Director Joe Spix for collaborating with Jeff and Ed on the Grammy Award-Winning Lightning Bolt.

Lightning Bolt won the award for Best Album Package. Joe accepted the award during the Grammys Premiere event held prior to the Grammy telecast.

Kanye West had no comment.

I made this same point earlier in the thread. I consider him more of an overall musician than a rapper. Dre is a good comparison. Couldn't freestyle his way out of a paper bag but has been the architect of some incredible rap albums.
