Never Destination is done so well. For a song in this vein, it has so much going on. Lots of interesting parts. Lots of creativity in an unassuming package. I like the MFC comparison. I’ve always really enjoyed that song too. They both have an energetic quality and a musicality that surpasses many songs with the sort of “surf rock” vibe. But I think Never Destination is more musically diverse in its approach and execution. Super underrated initially around here, I’m glad some of you are coming around on this one.

The guitar part is very similar to Far behind on into the wild. And i fucking love it. Its that song full band on drugs and even catchier.
EV rules, you goons.

I've heard the song a bunch of times now yet still haven't caught the part where "Bob Honey" is mentioned, though my ears/brain very rarely focus on the specific words being sung.

haha!
after the "gaping maw" section:
"Thank you Bob Honey, thanks Paul Theroux;
If I ever did, to this place let me go;
Off in the distance, leviathans,
50 foot and breaking on my innocence"

I like to hope that I don't, either. Because otherwise it's that god awful Sean Penn book.

So the worst thing on this album by far is the mere idea that Ed might have liked that book.

If it is referencing that book. It's funny that he'd reference an almost universally panned book by a controversial celebrity author. Seems fitting for this album / these fucked up times.

and I'm sorry but you all have to come to terms with the terrible Sean Penn book reference sometime, it may as well be now

He may not have actually liked it, but rather thought it was noteworthy as some kind of ode to the times. Like, he references Trump a couple times and obviously doesn't like the guy. Now, the references in these songs are certainly done in different ways, but the songs themselves are quite different from each other also.

maybe there might be clues in why / how he mentions Paul Theraux; I know nothing about him, just that he's a travel and fiction writer
the Bob book is supposed to be self-conscious satire, but can we trust Ed to carry that through in this song?
