this does sound different - the 'obeys' is pronounced differently

and the 'downs' at the end you can hear (stone?) more

and the outtro sounds more acoustic-y

But would love FLACs of these, or whatever hi-res is available. Thanks for posting!
Another thing to remember is the leak history for yield. A radio station got ahold of it early a d played it throughout the Thanksgiving 97 holiday. That was then taped and converted to early mp3. I remember at the time downloading the radio leak and then recording that on a cassette for my car.

This Lowlight is definitely another mix. It lacks the little solo and the bass is more prominent. Also the ending is more twinkly.

Great finds. The bass is significantly more prominent in both of these mixes, and there's no McCready solo on Low Light. Also a good reminder of the effectiveness of Brendan's keyboard parts on both songs. A high-quality version of Yield was circulating amongst those in the know in October '97 - right after Brad's U.S. tour. These are definitely not the same versions from that incarnation.

There's no exotic story - just getting to know people on a different forum and trading wares during/after the 03/04 tours.

The songs themselves are both Jeff and they were probably sent to someone after they went into the studio to give a sample of what they were up to. Obviously some finished elements are in the recording, but they still had work to do (like the Low Light solo).

I remember in the middle of summer 1997 the website Wall of Sound had a news blurb about the album that had a Real Audio snippet of Pilate. I don't know if it's related in any way.

I believe this take is from the Sequenced Mixes (Untitled) cassette. It was copied at some point and passed off as demos being found on the Five Against One bootleg CD.

Damn.. that version of "Whipping" is phenomenal. Sounds like almost entirely different takes than were used in the album version.

The only thing that sounded different to me was the vocal take. All the instruments sounded the same as what ended up on the the album.
