The screeching from Ed is pretty bad though. I hope that's better on the album.
Just listen to his screech at the end of MYM compared to the studio version and know that it should be much better on the album.

I can agree with this....nicely put
Whether or not this sounds like Yield or Backspacer will depend entirely on production, imo. Unthought Known could've been a Yield song, so could ATW. But they sounded like pop songs because of arrangement, instrumentation and production.
I liked the production on BS, but the guitars in ATW sound so weak...i hope they change that in LB. Still, they have never sounded the same in the albums so...

This is a good point. I love that he fluffs the first three lines at Wrigley.

Yup. I wasn't saying I didn't like it, so much as that the same songs can sound like they came from different albums depending on the approach in the studio. If this one has to have any Backspacer shine on it, I hope that it's undercut with some more depth and layering. MYM was so I can't help looking forward to seeing whether we have any nuances. I'm not expecting anything on the level of Riot Act, but something close to Yield or Binaural would be nice, even Versus (not in terms of its aggression but its kind of live-yet-cleanness).

oh yeah VS..i would like that. Its impossible though....what i was saying is that im guessing a different approach might appear in LB, the record. We dont have two similar sounding albums in their whole career..so im guessing we might have a new sound with this album too.

I hope so. How many consecutive albums did they make with BO'B?

From Vs to Yield...and he mixed Binaural...and all of them sound really different. My old buddies used to hate how much different the band sounded those years, like a different band all the time.
And with BS they went for a different route. So, im guessing this new album could sound different too.

Cool. Hopefully he thinks 'different album, different sound concept' then. I'm only nervous that he will show the same 'progression' as PJ's songwriting at this point (i.e. none). They're older now, yada yada yada.

Do you think MYM represents his 'best' production though?

No, but it's not bad by any means. It'd be nice if it was a little rougher around the edges.

His best work with PJ in terms of production and ideas are No Code and Yield.

Heard MYM on the radio yesterday and it sounded way better than my flac rip. the guitars sounded way louder and more raw. I found it very odd how much of a difference there was.

Really? I'm assuming I have the same rip as you. It would be great if this sounded more meaty on the actual thing.

It could just be the effect of being on the radio but I had just switched from the cd with t on it and it was playing. My fiancée noticed right away "damn it has bigger balls on the radio". Afterwards I played with some EQ and it did benefit to boost the mid ranges.

That's interesting, very interesting. Damn you Pearl Jam, just let me go already. What a cock tease.

The Dime recording of this is much better than anything that's on youtube, the guitars sound much better.
Ed does pretty good on it.

*NM I think I figured this out. I'll put it up on gmail shortly.
Awesome! Thankyou
no prob! It's up but there is a ding right when the song ends. i'll edit that off later and re-up that version, but otherwise it sounds totally fine.
Sounds great. Any chance you're doing future days too?
