Any better suggestions?
It's Simon says we're making love like the lizards....and on a side note I can't wait to get my tour shirt with two lizards fucking on it.

Science says that we're making love like the lizards.
Try to say that fossils ain't profound.
Simon says that we are not allowed to discover.
Simon says 'Stand up, sit down, you're out.'

Yeah I know, but this one is just so random it doesn't feel right. I don't know. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Oh yeah, I jumped the gun, was thinking about it in my head while working. It's exactly how you said Harm, I still can't wait to get my shirt.

He's connecting lizards with dinosaurs. We're making love like the animals; try to say that your "creation / love story" is more profound than these fossils and evolution.

Simple statement, simply understood. Not sure where the confusion lies.

These are good, ambiguous lyrics which aren't all that difficult to understand. I'd rather these than the photorealistic journal entries of S/T.

well I didn't go from lizards to dinosaurs but that makes sense.

The word "dinosaur" means "terrible lizard", but they're technically more closely related to birds. So eh... that's the bit where Ed is just like yeah.

I'll forgive ed for not being up to date on that.

Also, fuck science. Dinosaurs are fucking lizards.

do you? because everything in modern rock is pretty fucking easy to play.
i don't get this critic either. the guy is most likely a troll or at least acts like one but i'll share my two cents about this anyway: simplicity is a key ingredient to the best rock music. if you want immediacy you don't write a 10 minutes epic with several meters and wild scales explorations. when i was a teenager i used to listen to a lot of prog, thinking that it was where it's at but i came to realize that a lot of the attitude behind that music is insecurity mixed with disproportionate egos. like those musicians can't face simple issues simply because that would seem "lazy" or "boring" so they'll complexify their raw feelings to a point where most humans will feel repelled by such a "rich vocabulary" when in fact, it's just a maladroit acknowledgement of their inability to be honest, have fun and talk to ladies. i think that, ideally, great musical knowledge and ability should be used to get your point across more efficiently, same with a rich vocabulary - it should help you describe something more precisely in your own way, that is way more impressive if people can relate.
the point was that the "easiness" is a reflection of the lack of effort occurring with the new material. the statement was in the context of a rant about new PJ being average and uninspiring. Not a manifesto about how only complex music is good music.

three chords of rockin in the free world with some hearty singing and guitar licks has been shown to tear the roof off of a place. there is power in the simplicity of that song.

PJ should be embarassed that this is their best foot forward now.

There used to be more passion in the simple stuff that carried it from "ample" into "great".

This new crap, most of BS included, is neither simple yet powerful nor simple yet contemplative. Its just simple. They are capable of better, and that is what makes it so frustrating. (MYM excluded)

The generic verse-repetition plus "Doo-Rock" (Doo Wop meets Rock) bridges and choruses that seem to permeate on the new PJ are just not breaking out of "ample". They are often drooping down into "insufficient".

But it is ultimately a matter of personal taste. Some easily-impressed wieners might like this stuff. Or people who have no balls. And that's their prerogative.

But PJ are capable of better, and that is what makes it so frustrating. They are not bringing their NBA Finals quality game to the studio. They are bringing tuesday night versus the bobcats 82-game NBA regular season quality game. They can do better.

BOB is not bringing their best out of them. He is bringing what he thinks is the cutest iCommercially-viable package out of them.
MYM is just as "simple and unclever" as everything you've mentioned here, you just like it more because it's got bigger guitars.
it would fall under "simple yet powerful"

and also BALLS

sadly this song requires too much effort to be a regular fixture in the live show. it will likely get pushed to the wayside in favor of less impressive tunes that Ed is enamored with such as LIGGGHHHTNING BooOOOOoooLT!!!

Holy shit, all these pages of criticism and all you need from a song is "BALLS"?

I don't think it's "I'm bearing witness to some better things", by the way, but I don't understand it. I think it's a "st" sound, it's definitely an "s". Sacred? Secret? And "things" might be "days".

I don't have it handy but I thought it was "stranger things".

Sometimes, but not all the time! Shall we continue this game of let's take the case and turn it into the rule?

this song is easy -> he is saying that only complex songs are good songs

this song has balls -> he is saying that only songs with balls are good songs

This should be fun, let's see how this pans out:

Why should we only look at Godzilla? There are other giant lizards out there. What about Cloverfield?

You don't understand it, which means that you do not understand all things.
