Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Asked chatgpt about winners and nominees that have used special effects.
Spoiler: show
Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody
• Won: Best Actor (2019)
• How: Malek wore prosthetic teeth and digital effects were used to sync his performance with Freddie Mercury’s singing, particularly in the recreation of the Live Aid concert. This is lighter on CGI, but digital enhancements were involved.

Leonardo DiCaprio — The Revenant (2015)
• Oscar: Best Actor
• How CGI/Effects Were Used:
• The infamous bear attack scene relied heavily on CGI and special effects, with DiCaprio performing in highly choreographed motion sequences with a stuntman in a motion capture suit.
• Although the role wasn’t CGI-based overall, this pivotal scene combined DiCaprio’s physical performance with extensive digital enhancement.

Brad Pitt - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
• Best Actor Nomination (but did not win for this role)
• How: Pitt’s face was digitally aged and de-aged using extensive CGI and visual effects, especially in the first half of the film where his performance was digitally mapped onto smaller actors.
• While Pitt didn’t win, this was a rare case where a performance was closely tied to special effects.

Emma Stone — La La Land (2016)
• Oscar: Best Actress
• Use of visual effects in the dream sequences and stylized musical numbers.

Sandra Bullock — Gravity (2013)
• Oscar: Best Actress
• Performed extensively against green screen, with CGI environments created entirely around her performance.

My favorite films are rarely turn out to be award winners.
Award winners I usually make a note of to watch at some point in the year.

Anora is one I did watch before the awards, and still puzzled how it got the best picture win.

dude the only difference you should be calling for is awarding the team instead of the actor, which is fine. just enjoy the art for what it is. awards don't matter

It's not a joke, he really did win. Check the trades.

He even gave a really long acceptance speech (from the heart).

I heard. It went on longer than the film he was in! And that thing went on forever!

6 minutes is a really long time for these guys. No wonder most of them are single.
