Seems like any time anyone releases something limited, it disappears from regular price fast and reappears equally fast at a new market price. I know it's naive, but I think it's nice when the people who make the initial purchase actually are excited about the product.

I bought this because I thought it was cool and would enjoy listening to it... but have to admit that I won't hesitate very long to flip it if someone is silly enough to dish out 1,000 bones for it.

You're right--it is, and I apologize.

No worries. I often appreciate your point of view and well written posts, however I felt you were taking a slightly one-sided or generalized view of collectors. Speaking of which, another thing that came to mind regarding this topic is how PJ have always been built around collect-ability. Maybe it's because I have that collectible-nature and have sought it out, but going back to the xmas singles, No Code Polaroids and tour posters it's been a huge component of the PJ-machine that I love. While we could place some of the blame on 10C, I get the sense that Ed or Jeff might have a bit of that same collectible streak in them which inspires some of the marketing decisions they make.

Speaking for myself, this is a welcomed added-element beyond the music that makes the band more endearing. If there is a line to be crossed, I don't feel they are anywhere near it yet.

I, for one, will unapologetically say that I think collecting is silly. It's a hobby that primarily utilizes your credit card to create the illusion of having achieved or succeeded at something, rather than involving any of the constructive effort or practiced craft that a hobby usually entails. Even if you get creative or crafty with the way you display your collection, then that's still a home decor-type side-hobby that sprouted off of your main one, which is pretty much just the thematic buying of things.

But the great thing about hobbies is, you don't have to give a shit what I think about it.

I would totally be a collector if 1) I had the money, and 2) my friends, or anyone likely to visit my house and see my collection of cool shit, cared about Pearl Jam. I'm not going to pay money so that me, myself and I can enjoy a room of PJ paraphernalia.

I can't believe they don't sell POGs anymore. I would collect those in a heartbeat if they were still available.

Well, I won't have to travel far to find my first victim. It turns out that my buddy (the same guy who I bought tickets for and took with me to Brooklyn 2) is one of these jerks, listing his copy for sale on ebay already for $900. Well, no problem. I know where he lives. And when his vinyl arrives I will break into his house in the middle of the night and steal it... and just to make a point, I'm thinking about kidnapping at least one, or maybe all 3, of his children...

I think Ten Club is trying to smack down the ebay sales. I only see two currently up, they don't have the picture of the box and neither has any bids.

I'd sell that shit to insane collectors all day. Then I'd laugh my way to the bank and not feel the slightest bit bad about it.
