Holy crap, that was beautiful. Took a turn I totally didn't see coming and it got me. I've listened like five times in a row now.
For various reasons this just made me bawl.
Love this song. Thank you theplatypus for sharing this with us.

Just so you know, your Christmas mix has been a staple in our household for the past several years. The kids love it, the parents love it, the grandparents love it -- a beautiful collection in unquestionably the best sound I've ever heard from this music in a digital format.
Thanks again for your efforts on this, it has made many Christmases extra merry and bright.
That really means a lot to me, Kevin.
I was very particular about the sound. I have a friend who used to work for Sony and he hooked me up with some cool unreleased things, like the Gene Autry "Rudolph" from the original lacquer! Also snagged a Mexican LP to get a good "Feliz Navidad" (wtf happened to that one in digital?) and even extracted the 3-track master of the Nat King Cole song from an SACD surround layer! No stone went unturned.
I'm giving this a spin today. It always gets me in the spirit. Thanks again.

My co-worker is playing a Christmas music playlist at work. We're six songs and I haven't heard one single song that I know.

UDPATE: The seventh song is The 12 Days of Christmas. So ONE song I know. However, I do not know this version. No idea who is singing this.

How do you know the Payola$? They haven't existed for at least 20 years and I never thought anyone outside of Canada had ever heard of them. For outsiders, Bob Rock was part of the this band before he moved on to producing.

I've always thought the Pretenders song 2,000 miles as a Christmas song. For me, it is so associated with my brother having AIDS and his last few months. The song still hots like a ton of bricks.
2,000 miles
is very far through the snow.
I'll think of you
wherever you go"
