That sounds like something one of his characters would say.

I just finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. What a fantastic read, beautifully done. It's kinda haunting me though - that idea of how incredibly bad we can be to each other, yet there are still little moments of beauty everywhere, if you are willing to look. The human powers of hate and evil and strength and love.
Really enjoyed it.

I've really wanted to read that for a long time. Stuff just keeps piling up and cutting in line. My next book is set. But maybe the one after that.

I guess he's near completion.
Is he? I thought he was working on that film, hadn't heard much about a new book.

I read, "Eventually, the mind becomes accustomed to certain patterns, structures, and voicings, which creates a problem when one's desire for familiarity is perpetually at odds with one's need to be surprised," and I thought to myself, 'enter Tom Waits.'
You've absolutely pinpointed what I love about Waits and why his music has had such a profound impact on my life in the last couple of years. I didn't even know that I was looking for a definition. But if anyone ever asks me again why I love Tom Waits, I'm quoting you.
