92 opening for the chili peppers and smashing pumpkins was about 30 minutes...still one of the better ones ive seen

Though, honestly, the one I remember most fondly was the VFC St. Louis show. That think kicked my whole ass.

it was 91 actually..it was fun

After all the habit talk last night, i think im also gonna go through some 96 and 98 live versions and see if it changes my opinion

I still think its crazy if people don't think force of nature is fuggin funky and stuff

Wow. I wanna listen to Maui 98 now & compare.

For what it's worth, I think Matt did his best drumming with Pearl Jam on the 1998 tour. I actually really enjoy the power and energy he brought to some of the songs that year (which continued somewhat into the 2000 shows too), he really seemed to step off the gas from 2003 onwards though.

Whether he himself felt he was being too overbearing, or one of the band members suggested he simplify his playing a little, I've always been a little bored by his Pearl Jam playing since then.

I thin k if you like Jack's playing, the Cameron on the 98 tour appeals for two reasons:

1. He was literally learning the catalog on tour, so he was a little sloppy. For some, that's a good thing, especially in comparison with the almost clinical way he typically plays.

2. He may well have been learning the catalog by listening to show Jack had played with them. Listening to studio Porch wouldn't be much help for learning how the band played it at that stage, after all, so he was probably doing a lot of Jack things just via imitation.
