Also, I bought the Sonos Arc and it’s fantastic. But I recommend getting the subwoofer with it.

This picture is so much better than my old TV. Even Mario Kart is hugely improved.

The only problem with fancy new TVs these days is that they really highlight how bad the compression is with most streaming services.

Definitely. Even on streaming though this picture is a lot clearer than my old tv, which was like 12 years old. Sounds much better too, but still mediocre and I will definitely be upgrading there.

Been a minute since anyone posted in this thread. What's everybody rocking these days? I got an 85" Sony X95L in November and have been loving it. Not quite perfect, but about as good as you can possibly get in a consumer display right now.

I'm also up to four 4K UHD players in the household lol

How are you liking OLED? I know it's beloved tech and rightfully so but I just can't get on board with it myself.

I'm a sucker for inky blacks and low input lag. Others complain about these sets not being bright enough but too much brightness seems very unnatural to me (looking at you Samsung sets).

There are some emerging technologies that appear to show promise, but I don't think they're quite there yet in terms of long term performance or price point.

The brightness issue is definitely one of my sticking points. I just don't think I can sacrifice it coming off a ~1400 nit Samsung and now a 2000+ nit Sony. The biggest advantage is that my Sony really doesn't have to do much HDR tone-mapping at all with its peak luminance capabilities, and HDR tone-mapping is still such a wild west technology that can cause lots of annoying display problems on sets with lesser brightness abilities. Also, because my set is a high-end mini-LED, black levels and blooming really aren't issues at all.

And I know it's mostly irrational but I just can't live with the possibility of burn-in. I know myself and it would drive me crazy.

I have never once encountered an issue with burn-in on either of the LG sets and that's with hours long gaming sessions on both. I feel like it's an overhyped problem for 99.9 percent of users.

Unfortunately, I don't think any set is perfect unless you really splurge so you kind of just have to accept certain tradeoffs with whatever display technology you choose.

Last week I decided to get the kids' crap out of what was supposed to be our theater room and finally use it for its intended purpose. Got a Hisense 100 inch tv on sale at costco, JCL soundbar/subwoofer, and sony 4k player. Really looking forward to watching movies like a human being.
