This whole thing is just depressing to me.

I always kept a special place for him even when he was an "idiot" b/c I believed he at least got the big things right aka George Bush aka the candyman does not care about black people etc etc. Or just listen to Jesus Walks or Ultralight Beam or even Touch the Sky or lots of others... it seemed the core of his being was aligned to something that grounded the quote-unquote idiocy.

To put it another way, because of how he consistently hit the bullseye with his music and artistic direction, I could even hang with him in a post-Kardashian world, which is saying a whole helluva lot. More than I could say for probably anyone else.

Now it's just a c-level trolling act that needs to be doubled-down on combined with the whole *actually* stance that he's clearly getting off on now. Add in the unfathomably dumb agitators that whisper in his ear "yes, kanye" and "see, kanye" and "we told you, kanye" and "they don't get it, kanye" - they allow a man who's not on top of his game to *actually* believe no god dammit, he's still on top of his game IN FACT he's more on top of his game than ever and people just simply don't understand where he's coming from cuz they can't b/c he's on a trip that is so next level only candace really knows. he ties himself into a pretzel before our very eyes and then claims he's on the level.

i don't know what to do with all this. it's just sad that i feel so effortlessly dismissive of someone i thought probably made the best music of the last decade plus. i guess we'll see where this goes but at the end of the day i've given this guy way more good faith than he's given most of us.

Appropriating widely reviled right wing iconography as a means of free thought martyrdom makes sense to me in a roundabout way, especially for Kanye. But actually promoting dumbass republican political policies (like he did in his 13th Amendment tweet) does not. When he said “I’m not political; I’m an artist,” that made sense to me. But he can no longer honestly say that when he is spouting right wing political rhetoric, thereby effectively supporting their policies.

I think he has some shitty voices in his ear right now.
