i thinks it's several factors. Things I have heard:

- Italy has way older population on average
- Italy had a super-spreading event early at a huge soccer game in the north when this was off the radar and then resulted in Lombardy totally blowing up (opposite of flattening a curve)
- Italian healthcare infrastructure not as good as Germany
- Italian hospitals have more antibiotic resistant bacteria bc the country has allowed purchase of antibiotics without a prescription for years
- Germans started testing comprehensively sooner
- Germans obey social distancing laws (have seen videos where police loudspeakers remind people to stay indoors - sounds like a movie from 1940s)
- Germans are superior race not as good at soccer so didn't have superspreading event

Sure it would. This thing has a 7 day incubation period. If you're testing you're getting people out of commission faster and they're infecting less people.

Sure it would. This thing has a 7 day incubation period. If you're testing you're getting people out of commission faster and they're infecting less people.

And this didn't happen in Germany. So either they weren't testing and Donny is hallucinating again, or testing doesn't matter. Probably the first.

Germans are arguably better at soccer, but yes, all this is true.

How you react to the virus as a nation matters. Norway is another example, where we had many infected early on, from travelling to Italy and Austria. But the numbers of dead here are comparatively far less than in Italy and Spain.

I also linked to an article earlier that says that more than a thousand die each year in Italy due to resistant bacteria, while the same number in Norway was far far lower. A lot of corona patients get a secondary infection. If there is resistant bacteria, the medication may not work.
