For some reason I'm having a really hard time getting excited about this season. I mean... I'm excited because it's hockey, but I'm not because Toronto.

Maybe it's because the Jays are doing so well it's easy to forget about the Leafs?
Anyways we lost our baseball team 10+ years ago, so bring on some hockey!!

I got my Winter Classic tickets yesterday for Habs-Bruins at Gillette Stadium on New Years Day. Can't wait!

Well the Leafs make it easy to forget about the Leafs, to be honest.

I'll still watch almost every game, and I've never been more excited about the direction the organization is heading, but there's not likely going to be a lot of on-ice success this year. The two things that excite me the most are a) the development of the young "core", including roster players and prospects, and b) the success of all the short-term guys like Parenteau, Hunwick and Winnik, who could help the Leafs future in trades if they have solid seasons.

The Jays are definitely making it hard to get too excited about the Leafs right now, though.

This weekend, I found a bunch of my old school stuff from when I was a kid. My grade three journal is basically a daily recap of the previous night's Jays/Leafs games.

One of the entries says, in French, "The Montreal Canadiens beat the Los Angeles Kings and won the Stanley Cup and the hockey season is over. Boooooooooo!" I was wondering if "Booooooooo!" referred to hockey being over or to the Canadiens, but then I realized the picture I drew appears to be me and Wayne Gretzky standing on top of a building with Patrick Roy falling off onto a burning Montreal Canadiens logo. I wonder if my parents were ever concerned about me.

That's awesome! You really should take a picture and post it here.
...also... you're very young.. WTF?! I was 17 when the Habs won that cup. I think I have some similar "hockey drawings" from my old school work that my mom kept. Lots of Patrick Roy drawings and maybe a few Mats Naslunds and Russ Courtnalls!

I just recently stumbled across my old hockey sticker albums from the early 80's. I loved completing those things.

Yeah, I was 9 then. I actually don't remember being really into hockey until about '96-97 or so, so it was cool to see that I followed it so closely at that age.

The picture, I should mention, is a bunch of little stick-figures with arrows pointing at them to say who they are. I was never much of an artist.

There is a lot of talk as the Stars as a dark horse for the Cup. After making it 10 out of 11 years in a row (not counting the lockout year) the Stars have only made the playoffs once in the last seven years. I believe they are headed in the right direction though.

The Seguin-Benn-Nichushkin line could be one of the best in the league. The addition of Patrick Sharp will help a ton as well. The goal tending will not be great but should be better. I'm not overly high on Lehtonen but the addition of Antti Niemi should help a lot. I was really hoping Jack Campbell would be in the league by now.

I think a 4th or 5th seed is doable. Really excited for hockey this year.

I don't see how they get past Chicago, Calgary and Anaheim, to say nothing of some of the other teams in the West that are much more balanced, even if those teams have less top end skill up front
