That's great to hear, zeb - these shows look amazing, wish I'd managed to make one.
Cheers Spen, felt like I couldn't miss the opportunity.

All of the above. His Radiohead material is mostly guitar (acoustic or electric) plus backing tracks, everything else is backing tracks, synths and loops/samplers. It all sounded flawless.

The background visuals are uniformly awesome too. A good portion of them reminded me of the House of Cards video.

So wait, were you there when the heckler dude got into with Thom about Palestine and made him storm off stage like a little bitch?

Like seriously fuck him, he won't shut the fuck up about Tibet or the US but stays silent about Israel and runs away from someone challenging him, shut up and go back to Radiohead already.

I’m with you zeb - what an opportunity! I went to both Sydney shows this week and they exceeded my already lofty expectations.

After years of waiting for Radiohead to return to these shores and nothing came, I feel so lucky to have just seen so many favourite songs I hadn’t seen live and thought I never would - Packd like Sardines, Let Down, Jigsaw, How to Disappear, Airbag, Present Tense, All I Need to name a few (the latter a surprising show highlight). Plus I obviously I hadn’t seen any of his solo/AFP stuff since he’s never toured it here before, so that was special (Suspirium and Default were particularly great).

You wouldn’t think constantly switching between soft acoustic guitar/piano and energetic electronica would work but somehow it does. After restraining myself from looking at setlists in the lead up to my shows I’m interested to see what else he busts out over the Asian leg of the tour. Last night he debuted a solo arrangement of Idiotqeue :hooray:

Glad to hear you saw both shows in Sydney, Rid. I really should have gone to both in Melbourne. How was the Opera House forecourt?

Just echoing the part about their tours to Australia, I've only seen them twice and am not confident that they will tour here again.

Has made seeing Thom solo and Colin with Nick Cave all that more special.

Y'all seem awful sure that Thom had a hissy fit, as per the typical dumb press hype. Listening to the audio, it doesn't sound like it to me.

Leaving the stage during a non-avoidable disruption (so the audience beats the shit out of the person responsible) is the oldest fake-out trick in the book.

Then the artist/comedian re-appears after the idiot is injured or removed, and everyone gets the feels. Oh wow.

All boxes are checked here. He even sets it up by calmly saying "You want to piss on everyone's fun?".

Not really. The dude wouldn't stop yelling shit as he was starting an acoustic song. Should he have grandstanded political?

It was great! I'd been twice before (Crowded House and The National) but this was the closest I'd been to the front of the stage (about 5 metres back dead centre). The sound quality was perfect and the audience was very respectful and quiet during the quieter songs - you could hear a pin drop. Thom did encourage some fun participation at times, doing Ed's 'Eeeeeeeeeeds' during Weird Fishes and the moaning during the outro to Airbag.

As for the protestor incident in Melbourne I agree with Trees - watching the video he really couldn't have handled it any better. Leaving the stage momentarily was the best way to end the incident and get a clear uninterrupted run at the last song, which was never in doubt. But don't let that get in the way of a good 'hissy-fit' headline

That's not what happened. Dude wouldn't stop yelling, was interrupting the next song and people were yelling at him to shut up, kept yelling after Thom called him out for ruining everyone's fun, would have yelled through the song.

It would have been a bitch move to have a meltdown and ask security to remove him, or to argue with him about politics. Instead he took a break and let his crowd handle it. They sang "na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye" as he was removed. Thom came back to cheers and continued.

We had this too - already one of my favourite concert going memories.

Awesome find.
