How dare PJ release a decent album, look at this board going all suffocatingly optimistic and accepting!

What are some songs are you thinking of? Curious because I don't think about production much.
Marker
Grievance
In my Tree

Just to name a few. There are many others.

I love these songs but would make noticeable changes to the way they sound. EQ, instrumentation, mix, effects, etc.

I can hear the perfect versions of these in my head.
i’d cosign this list
Grievance for sure. Don’t notice it with the other two.
Yeah, maybe im a bit nit picking with IMT, but Marker and Grievance for sure.

Just let me go and dial in the right sound on marker; im not a mixer/engineer BUT I know exactly how I'd want them to sound (completely subjective of course).

Marker - WAY too much middle, not enough overdrive in verses. instead it's a dirty, brittle, mess of crunch (can really hear this with good phones in left - mike's- channel). Choruses should have less distortion as they do, but I'd like more "chorus" effect (brighter) in this part. I'd have stone strum the chorus part and mike appregiate over top of this. (kind of like he does in the bridge - kind of. Instead, I think they play the same thing - boring.

And sorry, no organ on the outtro (sorry BG).

Grievance.....too much to mention here. Would take paragraphs....

Serious question: have you been to a ton of shows and/or played in bands, and if so, have you consistently worn ear plugs?
I've been to maybe a dozen shows in my life. No ear plugs.
I’ve taken abnormally good care of my hearing, I think. And still there’s some hearing loss.

I genuinely wonder what the average hearing quality is for a bunch of 40-something rock fans on this board, and to what extent that plays into some of this stuff.
i play drums and guitar, been to dozens of shows, never worn earplugs

had distortion in right ear for a while and thought it was damage but went to ear Dr. and it was just significant ear wax buildup :haha:

ear pods pack wax down, qtips do too they do nothing

just need a wax clean out by a dr every once in a while

but listening to DM on ear pods max volume does not hurt my ears

when was the last time you had a hearing checkup?
Had a full hearing exam about a year and a half ago. I have a common genetic “cookie bite” loss of mid-range response in both ears but otherwise great.
I took one 4-5 years ago at my wife’s behest, heh. They said everything was normal. I do have a hard time differentiating close up voices from louder background noise, always have.

If we’re in a situation where there are multiple people and there’s a lot of background noise, I’m useless to the group conversation. Other than the people that are right next to me, I can’t hear anyone else.

Pretty much same, wease. If we're in a restaurant, any background conversation is a distraction making any focus on conversation difficult.

Having said that, we're conflating a lot of different elements in this production conversation.

this is an important factor superseded only slightly by prostate health

but, in the interest of conservatism, i think the only path forward we have now is to create a march madness tournament to confirm which personal age-related health issue most significantly impacts the production values of Dark Matter

Man.....

Car Ride included Dark Matter into Breakerfall.

Lol production on Dark Matter

It was so nice to hear the bass being all sexy in the middle, various guitars off to the side doing their individual parts, drums not choking me out. All that space yet aggressive killer playing.

Dark Matter is just one big loud thing with everything seemingly shoved right up the middle.
