It's a Bowie kinda night. Thinking of busting out Blackstar for the first time. Might be ready.

Brett wrote:Based on the fact that I enjoyed their songs from Spenno's last two year-end mixes, I'm finally checking out Cavern of Anti-Matter, starting with Blood Drums. Currently on "Dystopian Shopping Mall," and I love that it actually has a Muzak style shot through with kosmiche and kraut elements. Other tracks have reminded me of Stereolab (of course) and Suicide and/or Martin Rev's Clouds of Glory. I'm digging it.
That's great! You know, I haven't heard Blood Drums yet, I was planning on picking up the new reisssue - first time it's been on CD, if I'm not mistaken.

I've always been wary of listening to Pat Metheny, but in retrospect I think it may have always had more to do with his hair than any preconceived notions I had about his music. But this album is mellowing my mind, man. Jim Hall is mostly the star, as I'd hoped, but the Meth-man provides excellent accompaniment, with emphasis on the comp. Some damn good guitar music.

I do like that, thanks. Metheny has this sort of offputting new-agey vibe to his playing which is more prevalent here than on the album with Jim Hall, where Hall's more traditional tendencies kind of balance him out, but no question he's a great player and that the music is lovely. I'll check it out further.
