Because they asked him to make the guns for him; he wasn't already sitting around sawing off shotguns and trying to sell them. Ethical quandaries aside, I believe this meets the legal definition of entrapment to the letter.
Yeah this was 100% entrapment. But my sympathy for him begins and ends there. He should have shown up for court and used entrapment as his legal defense.

Mr. Mercedes is an upcoming American detective television series based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It is set to premiere on the Audience network in the fall of 2017. David E. Kelley is the showrunner and it stars Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway.[1]

Cast and characters[edit]
Brendan Gleeson as Detective Bill Hodges[1]
Harry Treadaway as Brady Hartsfield
Jharrel Jerome as Jerome Robinson
Mary-Louise Parker as Janey Patterson
Justine Lupe as Holly Gibney
Scott Lawrence as Detective Peter Dixon
Kelly Lynch as Deborah Hartsfield
Ann Cusack as Olivia Trelawney
Robert Stanton as Anthony "Robi" Frobisher
Holland Taylor as Ida Silver
Breeda Wool as Lou Linklatter
Man, the casting on this looks amazing. Who the hell is the casting director on this thing?
Production[edit]

The series was originally announced in July 2015.[2] In May 2016, Audience ordered 10-episodes-long season and the initial cast was announced.[3] In June 2016, Anton Yelchin, who was set to play Brady Hartsfield, died in a car accident. Ann-Margret was cast to play Ida Silver before she was forced to drop out due to illness in her family. She was replaced by Holland Taylor in the part.[4][5] After recasting, the production began in early 2017 in Charleston, South Carolina with the release scheduled for fall 2017.[1]
That would have been so good, wow.

The President Show is amazing. Layered political satire not seen since The Colbert Report. Not just the smug choir-preaching of insufferable shit like The Daily Show or Full Frontal; Anthony Atamanuik is an artist, and his take on Trump is deep, vicious, and expressive, both endlessly hilarious and seriously frightening.
