Meh. Feels Almodovar had the need to grab all the hot topics he could and make a movie. Some scenes felt forced.

No way Cruz is giving an oscar worthy performance.

I’m just going by my own kids, who are utterly bored by stuff like Inside Out and Luca. And when I watch them, the concepts seem designed to please wistful 30 year olds. The Disney-branded movies are way better at appealing to kids and adults.

Inside Out was one the Pixar movies I liked best, and I do think that one had parents in mind a bit too much. I felt the opposite about Luca. (And Jorge, I had no idea Encanto wasn't Pixar! Silencio Bruno!)

Spencer - One of the more interesting horror movies I’ve seen in awhile. I can’t see myself watching it again.

The scene where ana casually tells Janis he was raped? And then it just all goes away. Also Ana casually becomes a lesbian too. And then all of a sudden she is a control freak...and Janis is a horrible person but everyone loves her anyway. Oh, and lets add a little of history and politics and casually tell the audience about the little toy they might find in the grave...and yes, its there!!

And yes, the scenes with her in that open field at night, or that house...damn, it felt like something from The Others.

OK, here's an embarrassing one. I'd been avoiding watching the Anthony Hopkins movie The Father. I knew the premise: daughter struggles as her father's dementia progresses. I thought it was typical Oscar-baity, tug-at-the-heartstrings mush. I watched it tonight, and it is not that at all. It's phenomenal, really playful, really scary. Great stuff.

Here's the embarrassing part. I had it in my head that it was directed by the guy who made Philomena (who turns out to be Stephen Frears but I didn't know that). And the reason I thought that is because Frears' next movie was Florence Foster Jenkins. And The Father is directed by a guy named Florian Zeller. So I just half heard a 'flor*n' sound and my brain put one and two together to make five.

So The Father was not what I was expecting at all. I loved it

And Anthony Hopkins is great in it. He does some very weird stuff and it all works. I don't think I've been this afraid of him since Silence of the Lambs. But I also love him, so...not at all like Silence of the Lambs. Great movie

I knew very little about it. I had basically just written it off over a year ago. I only watched it tonight because it's Monday so I'm tired and I wanted something 'non-challenging', I guess. That's not what this was, though. But it gripped me right from the start, so it was an easy watch after all, in a way.

Actually, it bears some similarities to Bergman Island, come to think of it
