I don't like how in the gigaton era shows I've listened to Matt quitely drums, keeping time I guess, during the parts that should have no drums such as present tense, inside job, etc

Fresno 2000. A strong one and performancewise the best of the California shows on that leg. Highlights include Interstellar/Corduroy, Hail Hail, Whipping, MFC, Habit, Parting Ways, RVM..

I actually attended San Bernardino 2000 and that was a Top 3 show for me. Furious pace. Ed was sick but still sounded great. Check out that boot. I bought it right away.

This may have been addressed before, but why don't the 2000 tour boots sound anything like LO2L? Is it a difference of equipment, tape vs. digital, the way the instruments were mic'd, or a combination of things? I can't imagine it was the scale of the project because they'd been recording all of their shows since '92ish.

The Euro leg of the tour sounds somewhat like LO2L save for the lack of bass.

To my ears, much of the second leg of the 2000 NA Tour, the vocals--and sometimes the instruments--sound like they're in the distance. Whereas LO2L everything sounds much more upfront.

What gives?

i think its the mix. It was a bummer back then to listen to the 2000s boots for me, and i was pleasently surprised with 2003 and specially 2005´s mix.

The lack of bass in the 2000 boots are a crime.

I tried to listen to the whole 2000 tour back then, i might get back to it these days because im starting to listen to PJ again and the tour is near.

Since Eliason recorded and mixed both I would actually feel that is just it. LO2L was essentially the first exposure of live Pearl Jam to the masses, I would expect it to have more label pressure to 'succeed' as well.

Also remember, LO2L was a smattering of what was seen as the best takes (for a host of reasons) to make up the tracklist whereas the 72 bootlegs from the '00 tour are basically warts'n'all, with different venues offering different acoustics, loud crowds effecting the actual mic recordings, weather, etc.

LO2L also kicks ass.

It's just a different mix, that's all.

The mixes on LO2L were done in a studio with the intention of it being a commercial live album, while the mixes of the 2000 tour boots were done quickly on the road by Brett without the benefit of time, or the resources of a professional studio.

Still, I think they sound great, particularly the Euro shows (unpopular opinion, I know).

The 2003 boots sounded pretty awful in comparison (too bloated, compressed, loud, etc.)

I never liked the guitar sound on the 2003 boots, especially on songs like Go, Hail Hail...ugh...even later (2006) versions of Save You sound way better. For some songs this sound works but not for the rockers.
And I always found it weird that US Leg 1 and 2 from 2000 sound so different. Europe was an experiment (that doesn't sound so bad, you have to really crank them up), on US leg 1 they got it right but then on leg 2 the vocals are very distant...

true, Barcelona 00 was the first live boot i bought and i needed to crank up the volume very loud to get it...and of course no bass.

I have Seattle 1 and 2 too, and they sound amazing. I have another from the us leg...cant remember which one.

I should check those cds

I've been slowly working my way through the Ape/Man 2000 shows. Just finished the batch of Euro shows and agree about how quiet they sound in comparison to any other future bootleg.
