This was the best team in baseball(with a young core!) less than 3 years ago and Bloom has systematically turned them into one of the worst teams in the league.

Remember the dancing, high-fiving outfield?! All 3 will be gone now. I'm glad Henry has been willing to pay big bucks on occasion, but the front office shake ups have been brutal for this franchise. I fucking loved Mookie Betts, guys. I think Benny did, too.numbers wrote:This was the best team in baseball(with a young core!) less than 3 years ago and Bloom has systematically turned them into one of the worst teams in the league.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
What kills me is, Bloom is going to get fired within a year once Henry gets nervous about the ratings and the lack of interest. This is all for nothing.

Guys, help me, I think I've been radicalized--I have very little problem with the Benintendi trade and am optimistic about the team's long-term potential and think that even they're outside of a window for true contention now that they're setting themselves up with the right moves to contend soon. I felt the same way about the Mookie trade after a year of thinking about it--genuinely upset about the fact that I don't watch him play every day, and also upset that the Sox didn't try harder to re-sign him sooner, but resigned to the fact that they had to do what they had to do last winter. Help me.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
I'm down on Benintendi, but I still think he has one more season to turn it around before I've completely given up on him. I'm not against the idea of trading him, but I think selling low and getting a sack of nothing for it is dumb.
It's more the combined fact that the 2018 team is almost completely dismantled now that is upsetting me, and I have no faith that the Red Sox can pull off a complete tear down and rebuild the way a small market team, or a team that has sucked forever in a bigger market (see: Houston), and be successful at it. It's like numbers said, Henry is going to pussy out halfway through the rebuild and try to have it both ways. Which means despite tearing down the 2018 team, it's still not going to work.
But so much of this is bigger than the Red Sox too. Baseball is fundamentally broken right now.
If a team like the Boston Red Sox can't draft a player like Mookie, make sure he stays on the team for life, and still be able to build a team around that to win, then you have a broken system.

Regarding Mookie:Simple Torture wrote:Guys, help me, I think I've been radicalized--I have very little problem with the Benintendi trade and am optimistic about the team's long-term potential and think that even they're outside of a window for true contention now that they're setting themselves up with the right moves to contend soon. The luxury tax is bullshit. Henry can afford it, don't feel bad for him unless he's going to lower the cost of seeing a game.
They didn't have to do anything they didn't want to do.
He bet on himself year after year and won and they should have fucking paid him.
He could play and thrive in this city.
Regarding Benintendi:
The outfielder they got in return is the same age with nowhere near the track record of production.
They can afford to keep Benny.
The luxury tax is bullshit.
They didn't have to do anything they didn't want to do.
He could play and thrive in this city.
