The "Around the Bend" from the second night is nothing to scoff at either. 2006 was a great year for the band and October was right in the middle of the sweet spot. Loving this today!

Milwaukee II 2006. Enjoyed this one quite a bit. Considering this was a short opening set for Tom Petty, it's a far cry from a greatest hits set. Completely random Last Kiss opener and lovely back to back renditions of Around the Bend and Indifference in the middle of the show. Very nice Save You Intro by Mike here as well..

That run of shows they did in 2006 opening for Petty are really fun.

I really like that the first two shows mentioned on this page reference two different versions of "Around the Bend."

New Orleans 11/16/93 — pretty bog standard audience tape for ‘93, but nothing my ears aren’t accustomed to. Massive performance — these guys just gave 110% every night back then.

Best thing about new PJ is the deep dive I normally take into the back catalogue.

Last two weeks I've done:

Solider Field 95.
Philadelphia N2 2000

Brisbane 2003 nights 1 and 2. Its taken me 20 years to appreciate these. I've only ever seen them play in Brisbane. At the time, I was probably disappointed at the heavy representation of Binaural and RA, and the relatively subdued tone. Still, all the RA tracks sounded great and its a nice moment in time of them working out the songs.

Ft worth 2, 2023. Really good show. Ed sounded good. Band sounded good. Undone was great though I'm not sure they completely stuck the landing.

The beginning of this topic got be to look into 2005 bootlegs. As someone who listens to a lot of bootlegs (anything officially released since 1995 since I don't really love audience recordings), I would love to talk to a team of scientists about the evolution of EV's singing. Not his vocal cords but of his singing choices. The movement on the vowels and gradual progression to overdoing every syllable. Like, is it a neurological effect of long-term marijuana use? Just compensating for losing the ability to hold a note due to smoking and screaming in general for 13 years? The effect of Adele rising to astronomical fame [kind of joking, but I blame her for the way 95% of female singers pronounce their vowels these days]? Is he trying to keep up with the flurry of notes Mike McCready is capable of producing? WHAT IS IT?

It just starts creeping in post '98 and gets more pronounced each tour. The quality of his voice is pretty good all things considered, but the choices he makes are let's say puzzling.

I always just assumed he was getting short of breath, though I haven't thought of that angle before

That Daughter from Milan was a revelation.

Yokohama 2003. Enjoyed that one immensly. They fuck up DTE but aside from that, this is an excellent show. Especially the quieter songs work w´very well here. Lovely renditions of LBC, Indifference... Daughter is also very interesting here. It doesnt have a tag, Ed just does a little call and response part but the guitar work from Mike and Stone is awesome during the jam/outro part

It’s weird how they’re releasing a bootleg every 4 days, but it drifts from being 5 days after the first concert to 18 days after the last one. Wish they would do more than 2 per week. But, hey, I haven’t even listened to the album yet, so I’m not rushing to listen to these.

I'm guessing Brett negotiated he didn't want to mix more than two a week, which honestly seems very reasonable.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s something like that. Last year they didn’t start releasing bootlegs until like 3 weeks after the tour started, so it’s nice to see it bumped up a bit!

I got through half the first show on the way to work. Mostly sounds great.
