If you are referring to the actor that played him, yes. But the character would still be alive in the Rogue One time period. Rumor was they were going to CGI him into a scene or two in this.

I finished the Catalyst audiobook today. Tarkin is all over it. He's a huge part of the story. He has to be in this film.

Guys, do you expect some kind of revelation in the story? Something new thats gonna change how we see episode 4? Do you think theyll try to attach this story to something on Episode 8?

I think it will change how we see episode 4 entirely *if* they manage to make the right connections in the story. Not just through placing characters like bail organa but through story.

There will be no connections made to 8. Though a lot of fans want to see or at least hear mentioned the Rebels from the animated series.
