The differences between the two monsters is striking:

Dayton:

El Paso:

Several Democratic presidential front-runners, for instance, have gone farther than merely criticizing President Trump’s rhetoric about illegal immigration and have accused him of “causing” or being “responsible” for the shooting in El Paso. In Slate, Tom Scocca has insinuated that center-right writers such as New York Times columnist Ross Douthat — who described Trump supporters’ opposition to current immigration levels as a legitimate political issue — somehow caused the El Paso shooter to launch his violent spree.

Such critics thus far have been less inclined to inquire about the political beliefs of the Dayton shooter. This is understandable insofar as investigators haven’t determined that his penchant for violence and the killing spree in which it culminated sprung from his politics.
The kind of disingenuousness displayed in this article is just exhausting after a certain point.

Has the Dayton shooters motive been determined to have been political?

My point is that the entire concept of the argument is disingenuous. One of these shootings is nakedly political; the other (as of yet) is not. Maybe we're going to find out that the Dayton shooter left his manifesto under his mattress detailing how he intended to shoot up the bar his sister was in because he just HATES Republicans. They're nothing alike, and the tiring aspect is that everyone involved in the conversation knows that, but we do it anyway. And it has real consequences. CNN is so cowed by the possibility that conservatives might dare call them one-sided that we get moronic crap like this:
Which, of course results in more moronic crap like this:
Followed by idiocy like this;
Now, the conversation may be idiotic, but I don't think Miller is. He knows any kind of correlation between these two shootings with the information we have is complete bullshit. So does pretty much everyone following him. So does Brian Stelter, and so does Kellyanne Conway. But everyone commits to this kind of partisan performance art, with the idea being that somehow mentioning the fact that the Dayton shooter was a liberal as often as possible somehow racks up some kind of points in this twisted scorecard being kept.

In addition to that being gross and crass, it's a waste of everyone's time (which is saying something), because everyone involved knows the conversation is based on a crap foundation. And that's, you know, kind of exhausting.

My understanding is a person was armed, but no shooting took place. I don’t quite get if that means an attempt at a shooting was prevented, or whether this is like that Times Square motorcycle backfire moment.

Even if that Dayton kid was politically motivated, what Liberal is making jokes about killing opponents and encouraging violence against others like Trump, like McConnell, like Palin?

Sorry I'm trying to stay out of this thread for my own sanity. I shouldn't have said that.

No no you don't understand, one time Maxine Waters said something about interrupting dinners and that's exactly the same as Trump laughing at the idea of shooting immigrants.
