I mean who cares if there’s a precedent for two politicians who publicly wish they were president choosing to debate in the public sphere? A declaration isn’t a permit to have debates. Also, it’s useful: no one gains shit from a debate anymore, so the act of signing up for this alone reenforces that they are not ready for the presidency.
