Same. the lighter/poppier elements of the song (including the chorus) hold it back a bit for me. I love the rest
"gave up on satisfaction" makes me wince a little
You’re sounding like someone who’s given up on satisfaction.
remember the misheard lyric "Stoney work that thang!" from Avocado?
this one is "Get up on satisfaction!!!" (ride the big big wave where it takes you!)

The melody is killer and the tone is warm and melodic. When BoB added this stuff on LB, it sounded like some lame synthetic plug-in he found online
It's definitely poppier, which I think made most of Lightning Bolt a bit lame, but I think it's melodically inventive - I feel like it was the idea of one of the guys (Jeff?), as opposed to the producer.
Also, I'm considering that it might be a guitar effect and not a synth...?

that's intriguing! I would be happier to hear it was a guitar I think

Are we talking about that brief bit of synth-y lead around 1:44? I love that bit.
Listening on headphones now, there's a wonkiness to it which leads to me think it might have been played on guitar (there are certainly plenty of synth-inspired pedals that could do it) but I don't see how it's better or worse either way.

That's the bit in question, yes.

I don't think it would be better sonically to know it was guitar, I just can't help feeling that it sounds pointless because it doesn't appear anywhere else in the song, and it appears right before a guitar line that's much more powerful

Has anyone ever sung the word ‘circumscribed’ better than Ed does here?

I might boost this to a 5 soon. I just can not figure out why I like it so much.

I think if it went straight into a post-chorus guitar solo, it'd be too close to the song Lightning Bolt. I like the wrinkle.

My 2nd favorite on this album, behind quick escape. I had the impression from reviews that this would be similar to SBWM (which I like), so I was surprised when I heard this the first time, and it made me really excited to hear the rest.

This one seriously grows with energy and momentum with every listen. I like it better every time

Yeah this song is creeping into top 3 on the album...I liked it at first but there's a bit to unpack for such a seemingly straightforward rock song.

Same - of every song on the album it is the one growing the most with each listen

I like Eddie's crazy person mutterings before the song kicks off.
