what a precious little twit steve albini must be.

Harmless takes all his vitriol to the Lightning Bolt thread.YieldAhead wrote:Six hours and only 16 pages. I'm disappointed.

You think BoB lacks pretense? Maybe. I wish I thought that.stupidmop wrote:That gives me the same pretentious douchebaggy vibe a lot of nirvana related stuff does ( not the music ). However, I feel like I'd prefer shit like that to BoBs skeezy 'more fans is the whole idea' self. I'd like to see what a guy like this would do with pj. Leaving stuff un-perfect, allowing for accidents.....I bet this guy wouldn't jizz piano cheese over everything.
Though, I guess BoBs complete lack of pretense suits the bands ' we wrote a power ballad and then went home and walked the dog, so what?' pretty well.
I had that feeling after reading Ed's RS interview. But, who knows, he's said these things before. They'll tour in 2013 & 14, and then go back to their extended breaks.harmless wrote:You think BoB lacks pretense? Maybe. I wonder whether PJ will actually decide they fancy making a more "low-fi" record again. It's possible, if they do grow old together.
Maybe pretense is the wrong word. But he clearly doesnt give a shit about making things seem cool or punk rawk or whatever. Or he's going about it wrong. Or he just doesn't understand that aesthetic. I often hear stuff he and the band say about writing songs quickly, throwing them out there, bish bash bosh, done! And I think yeah, Ed, your "punk" aesthetic is great. I really love it. The problem is, though, Backspacer wasn't punk. It was Shiny Show rock-pop. The sound was so laboured over, and that didn't jar with the punk aesthetic at all. I honestly don't mind BoB's shiny approach to production, but I do if it doesn't gel with the songs themselves. If you're going to write them quickly, fine, but record them quickly! If you're going to labour over the production, make them better-crafted songs. And I'm not really sure if BoB grasps that. He must be aware of producers with that aesthetic, but he's so wrapped up in the world of shiny showbiz productions that it's just normal to him that a record should sound that way if it's "professional".stupidmop wrote:Maybe pretense is the wrong word. Hints in interviews suggest that he totally changed his approach a few years ago. He went from analog to CDs, became heavily into pro-tools etc. I dunno why, but he's not the same BoB who produced the early records; probably from hanging around too many "industry guys". It all makes sense when I think that he probably follows trends, and during the early records, "alternative rock" was, like, bang on trend.stupidmop wrote:The vs/vitalogy/no code/Yield don't sound shiny or whatever, so he knows how to do that if he wants. Idk why they moved away from it really.

Albini is a big card enthusiast and apparently bought an item off eBay from one of the forum members, which caused them all to freak out. So he came to the forum and fielded questions. Somewhere in there he has some nice words about Glen and the Frames.
I disagree with a fair bit of his punditry but I think he sounds like an awesome engineer to work with. The above link definitely dispelled a lot of preconceived notions I had about him as a pompous egomaniac.
I'm 100% certain that Stone could do it. Hasn't he done his own albums?stupidmop wrote:They should produce a record themselves, might be a clusterfuck, but it would be thier clusterfuck. We could leave all the bitching in the general pearl jam bitching thread

Thanks KD. I'll pass this along.
