the bootleg for this show was really revealing. they are terrible live.

You say I don't know what I am missing, well, I can say the same thing. That young band in 1992 peforming with more energy and passion than I've ever seen any band perform with and doing a set list of 100% winners....it was pretty darn good folks.

mostly i just feel like arguing.
anyway any show up to 2000 definitely, and possibly 2006, had the potential to be in the upper tier of pj's live canon.
i would argue that the lolla 92 shows, by virtue of their limited setlists, did not.

No one's discounting how great they were playing in 1992. I wish I saw them then. I would definitely trade a few shows I've been to over the years for the chance to have seen them when they were just taking off. I passed on a chance to see them in 1991 when they were touring with RHCP and Smashing Pumpkins.
But, the problem in this thread is how you were harping on "they declined after I saw them in 1992." When the reality is, they were an amazing live band, at least through 2000. And, with several more tours beyond that had top notch shows that stack amongst their best. The "clunker songs" really started with me around the 2006 tour. But, everyone has a different opinion on that obviously.

But if you saw them in 1991 with a few thousand people, and then refused to see them ever again because it could never top that...
....a misguided attempt to not have your Pearl Jam live experience diluted,
Folks, that is not the reason why I choose not to attend a current Pearl Jam concert. I made it clear earlier, I'll do it again:
I don't attend ANY band's concerts if they are held in massive arenas or stadiums. That's not my thing. If you enjoy that, cool. I prefer live music in smaller venues.

75% of PJ's shows are played in arenas 20,000 or smaller. on the lightning bolt tour probably half the venues were smaller than jones beach, and quite a few were smaller than jones beach before the renovations that 'ruined it'. i was at the hartford show and that felt really small.

Same here. Many of my favorites now exclusively play arenas. I won't go.
Of course I have attended arena shows. Sometimes you have no choice. I saw Paul McCartney back in 1976. That's just five years after The Beatles and Paul wasn't exactly going to be playing a local club so off I went to an arena to see him.
And, yup, as fun as that show was, as I was leaving I said to myself, "Man, I wish I caught him at The Cavern Club back in '61."

Yeah that's the extreme part.
I assume he left the Lollapalooza show he holds in such high regard thinking "Man, I wish I had caught them a few months ago at the Limelight." But that would be way more rational than the McCartney comment since it was the same band in the same area in the same calendar year, so instead he'll probably tell us why Lollapalooza was much better than the Limelight.
