Nice fucking work!

thanks, t2b. i'm strongly considering the marathon now. grandma's marathon's training schedule for the june 23rd race starts in the third week of february, i think. i've been looking at their recommendations, and it looks doable. even with coaching baseball in the spring, i think i'd have time to train. if i make the $100 commitment (registration), i'll post and then do maybe a weekly post here to update the progress.

You guys who can run a marathon kill me. You guys have to train so much and you all seem to enjoy it. I think my body would break during doing what you guys call training. Total respect for those who can do it.
Just up from my power swim and my shoulders are burning. Three days a week I work on distance. Up to 1100 metres and two days a week I do half that length and work on speed. My thinking is I'll add a length every two weeks on my power swims until I'm at about 1200 metres. I will hate every minute of those swims. I better have a respectable time for an old guy doing his first triathlon.

10 miles in 74 + 5 mile hike
My friend backed out of our trail run this morning because he's a total pussy (it's been raining in PHX and he thought the trail would be too muddy). So I hit the gym with the kids. Instead of starting off at sub-7s and flaming out, I decided to start at 7:30 and, if things went well, crank it up. After 5 miles, I decided I was enjoying myself too much to pick up the pace. I did however have a decent half-mile finishing kick.
Later in the day, my 5-year-old son and I went on a 5-mile hike and enjoyed a killer AZ sunset.

Five miles at five. I'd say someone's taking after their dad.

10 miles in 73 minutes
It was cool and windy outside and the wife is finally kicking the flu, so I didn't feel guilty about hitting the canals while she watched the kids. I felt great, but the wind kicked my ass on the way out. Made it to the turnaround in 39, but expended a shitload of energy. Luckily, the wind pretty much blew me home. Back in 34 minutes. Nice run.

Had my best run tonight, though its still mostly just a jog, but i made it a mile and a quarter before slowing down to a walk, i made the mile and a quarter in just a hair under 15 minutes and walked the last 5 minutes.

so i am totally changing again how i am eating.
a guy on the MFP website put together a spreadsheet and apparently i have been eating way under the calories i should, and while i have lost the weight if i follow this spreadsheet guidlines it should be much better and healthier
i was eating about 1600 cals a day and burning off 800
now i will be eating about 2600 while having already factored in a 400 cal burn for the day
so the next weigh in i will probably gain a lb or two to start and then the effects of it will start to take shape hopefully

This pleases me greatly. I recall you scoffing at this sort of activity on the old board.
I've been on a protein-rich diet for about 2 years now. Cut from stone, bitches.

Lets hear more about this diet. You have me curious...
Actually, if anyone else has any tips on eating... that might be a cool addition to the thread.
