no one likes it but not many had the unfortunate experience to witness what a viscous disease it can be, so fuck cancer

Are you from the 1800s?
TB is a particular problem in London. Kids get immunised for it.

And dime, did you get it at home or in London?

Got it at home. Was only11 or 12 and suddenly got really sick and all the blood tests and urine tests showed something was wrong but they didnt know what even after a lumbar puncture on my spine. Huge horrible pain in my side. So they did surgery on me and it was a big tumour on my left kidney and another on my bladder so they cut it out & it was some rare strain(usually it only grows in the lungs).
That's all I know about it really. Have a big 9 inch long scar on the left side of my belly.

Sounds about right. The thing is "cancer" is a group of diseases with quite different symptoms and likelihood of long term remission. Consequently the experiences 1 in 3 people have vary greatly. This not even taking into account how different personal traits influence what kind of experience one ends up having when someone close to them gets it.

Fuck!

My father had it as a kid in the 50's. What saved him was some than new antibiotics that relatives from the US were able to send over.

Yeah it wiped out millions in Ireland and the U.K. In say my grandfathers time.
It's handy when I have to go to the emergency room for anything cos I have to make them aware I had it, so as soon as I tell em I get a private room and not put on a ward cos even though I no longer have it they have to take precautions anyways :)
