I haggled with the owner and ended up walking away with what later research told me is a ‘72 Sports Tourer made in the “handbuilt division” of Schwinn’s old Chicago factory. What’s special about this frame is the fillet brazing. No factory welding marks at all. The bike looks like it was smoothly carved from a giant hunk of steel.

It needs a TON of work, but I’m excited to get stared. $40 was a steal, IMO.

More on fillet brazing. Great read if you’re into that sort of thing :naughty:

These registration stickers from VA and NC are going to send me down a rabbit hole. Anyone know anything about 70's era bicycle registration databases?

Quality stamp acknowledging the bike's handbuilt division pedigree. I'm a geek for this kind of stuff.

The city hasn't updated their map since 2015 but they also haven't really done a lot since then to make anything better.

I took my bike to a party last weekend and half way there it started pouring rain. I Was completely soaked and had to stay in my wet clothes for a few hours at the bash. Guess who woke up with a cold this morning?

Stupid question probably, but can I just install drops on my Schwinn hybrid and relocate my brake and shifting components no problem...or is it more complicated?

Probably simple, but I'll have to do some research on it.

I feel like a goose among swans when I’m riding upright on the trails with my flat bars.

OK, so I had to go back a few pages to remember what kind of bike you have. Looking at some pictures - http://bfy.tw/IyyQ - it would appear to be more difficult than it might be worth. Like, these look like project bikes that mechanics are working on for shits and giggles. That's not to say it's impossible, just...improbable.
