Oh, I forgot about the random flying monster at the end. There's another sight.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Should I go see The Babadook at the Somerville Theater next month? I've never seen it but have heard it's really good.

Yeah, that would be a hard sell for me. "You know I can just pay some lady from Craigslist to do all this, right?"

The internet pretty much destroyed the cursed puzzle box industry.

Thoughts on some recent horror viewings:

Nightbreed
I saw this a long time ago, but this was my first time seeing the new director's cut. This movie is such a waste of potential. The pacing is a mess; everything moves way too quickly. The characters, relationships, and motives are never satisfactorily developed. But, more importantly, it never slows down to establish the necessary atmosphere for this movie to work. All the elements are there: matte paintings, pretty location photography, boatloads of wacky special effects make-up, a score by in-his-prime Danny Elfman, dark fantasy subject matter, monsters, gore, etc. But none of it ever jells or breathes. I wish this played out more like an R-rated Labyrinth or Return to Oz. I wish the carnage were more extreme (Clive Barker sets up these supposedly ultra-scary and powerful "berserkers," which, when they finally break out...just kinda throw some people around, I guess? What a letdown.). I wish someone besides Barker had rewritten the script and directed the thing; it could have easily been in the pantheon of great '80s fantasy movies (even though it came out in 1990). Oh well.

Rosemary's Baby
I've seen this before, of course, but it was time for a rewatch. Polanski's genius never stops blowing my mind. The mounting paranoia, the paralyzing absurdity, the surreal helplessness - no one captures the mundanely sinister and oppressive nature of the modern world like he does. My jaw dropped when I watched the special features and found out all the apartment interiors were sets - they do not look like it at all! Every time I watch one of his movies, it just reminds me why he is my favorite filmmaker of all time, and why it's not even close.

Wrong Turn 1-3
I really enjoy this franchise. Pure, shameless hixploitation/slasher fun. The gore (especially in 2 and 3) is just so gleeful and excessive. How could anyone not like Henry Rollins as a militaristic survivalist running around the backwoods killing cannibals?

Rawhead Rex
Thanks to a new restoration, this has been getting a lot of buzz lately, and I came away pretty nonplussed. It's a decent monster movie. It's nothing special. It's fine. It should be waaaaay gorier than it is. The new Blu-ray looked nice, though.

Funny. I think i did end up watching this but not making it very long. It felt like a boring drag.

Anywho, Scartober is here, fellas.

lets talk new horror movies to watch this season!

I just watched "Teeth" and The First Purge"

Teeth was wild. B style but actually kind of funny and entertaining.

The purge was awful. They should have stopped after the first.

I remember Teeth.
It was cool..i guess it would be a more important movie these days?

Haven seen the first purge yet, but i really liked the first three, with the first one being the better one.

Seeing the Nun tonight.

It may very well suck but those nun scenes from the Conjuring 2 were some of the creepier ones i've seen in a long time.
