Re: Sigur Rós
My rankings go something like this:
Hrafntinna
Yfirborò
Blápráòur
Kveikur
Brennisteinn
Stormur
Ísjaki
Rafstraumur
Var (I wish they'd made more of this song, it finishes the album in the same way as Valtari - possibly deliberate but...).

It wouldn't surprise me if this was a Valtari leftover.harmless wrote:Var (I wish they'd made more of this song, it finishes the album in the same way as Valtari - possibly deliberate but...).

Re: Sigur Rós
I've had the same thought actually, but with production values and effects to match the mood of this album. I guess I think that piano is a bit of a jarring sound considering the lack of keys in the rest of the album other than wooshy synths. If they wanted to go for piano it would've been nice to have had some Asian percussion, maybe, to connect the sound palette with others on the album. Having said all that, this is the final track so I can take it or leave it, and it's not at all bad.Chris_H_2 wrote:It wouldn't surprise me if this was a Valtari leftover.harmless wrote:Var (I wish they'd made more of this song, it finishes the album in the same way as Valtari - possibly deliberate but...).

I wonder why that that stream starts with Saeglopur midway through the set.Stickman wrote:

Yeah, it was a terrible stream and that still shows on this video. Some of the skipping was my own computer's fault but not all of it.

Yep. He seems to know how to talk about the songwriting process.

Listening to Jonsi's 'Go' again -- I think that apart from some of the darker moments and stranger vocal effects on Kveikur, there's a lot of similarity between these albums' sound palettes. A lot of the production values and the instrumentation choices are similar.

I agree. I think you can especially hear it on Yfirbord.harmless wrote:Listening to Jonsi's 'Go' again -- I think that apart from some of the darker moments and stranger vocal effects on Kveikur, there's a lot of similarity between these albums' sound palettes. I fully agree. But that's only because this one is so good. And not because I don't like Med Sud... & Valtari, cause I do.psychobain wrote:i need to spin some of their late work again, but i think this is their best since Takk, easily...

Re: Sigur Rós
Harmless, do you find it interesting/strange that they (i) still haven't played certain songs from Kveikur on tour that clearly would translate well live (e.g., Stormur, Rafstraumur, etc.), or (ii) chose Stormur as the next single?

Re: Sigur Rós
Well, I didn't know either of those things had happened. But yeah, I think pretty much any song from the new album would translate very well live. 'Stormur' is really nice, it's hard for me to say any would be more or less single-worthy just because I like them all. Although something like 'Hrafntinna' would've been more consistent with the first one. Maybe they wanted something on the lighter side this time.

my girlfriend and me watched this a month ago and it's fantastic enough to make us think about going to Iceland sometime in the near future.harmless wrote:Me and Sarah Harmless are watching Heima right now. This band
