I for one still think Pearl Jam is the same old irrational, hypocritical, passionately political dumbasses they've always been. But given the choice between changing the world with their music, or changing the world by taking the day off, they will choose the latter.

Had they announced it in those terms, I think I'd be more inclined to give them my grudging respect.

"We could've played the show, but this seemed much easier."

It was a joke, Strat.

Regardless of whether I think it was the right call to make in the circumstances, I have no doubt the band's feelings about the issue are 100% genuine.

To be fair, I'd do the same. Work is for suckers.

perhaps going forward, ed will now browbeat crowds on this issue for 4-5 minute segments at each show, totaling 2 hours by tour's end.

Keep in mind they would have had to play the show for free, since there is such a precedent to give all the profits to charity groups or else look like greedy capitalists. So they were probably like "fuck that I got beach houses to pay for". This is nearly as good, and a lot less work.

After Bruce cancelled, PJ was in a no-win situation

Honestly, other than their fans who really cares what Pearl Jam does in 2016?

The worst part of all of this is all my non-PJ fan friends that are calling me this morning to tell me as if I don't already know.

I just wrote a scathing e-mail to the Governor of North Carolina. The premise of it was "how does it feel to be looked at as more backwards and redneck than South Carolina?".
