Haven't seen that one yet. We mostly skip the US ones.

I think the US ones are fun jumping off points for how to travel in America. Even if I'm not visiting a particular city on the show, I'll explore the cities I do visit with the same sort of spirit. Or my own city. I'll admit the Charleston one with pre-sober Sean Brock is a tough watch. Sean looks awful.

His most recent Portugal one is a hoot. There’s a very salty street vendor you should try to meet. Also he eats a sandwich that looks like a very pleasant way to die by heart attack

Porto? I thought this was just okay. He's got real mask of death vibes in this one that is hard to watch, where everyone else's "cycle of life" comments become for him a sort of black pit of despair. Porto looks like a good time though.

I get that vibe from him a lot though. He wasn't long for this world and it often showed.

And yeah, Porto looks awesome. My mom's family is all Portuguese and yet I've never been. I loved watching him eat all the food I grew up eating, and some I'd never been exposed to, like that amazing sandwich.

That fucking sandwich. I do think his despair was more pronounced in the later episodes. The one with Asia in southern Italy is really bizarre, and there's even a moment where she asks him if he feels responsible for tourists overrunning previously secluded places, and you can just see his face fall.

I agree, I generally like the US ones, though selfishly I prefer them when they model areas/restaurants to visit. The more time he spends in peoples' houses, the less it works for me. Houston in that respect was just okay.
