An overwhelming majority of the American public — 87% — is now making the effort to stay at home when possible, a new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds, with most saying they’ll continue to do so this month regardless of any official limitations.

Just 7% of Americans say they’re not currently trying to stay home when possible, with another 6% unsure. By a 70-point margin (79% versus 9%), Americans say that the states that have issued stay-at-home orders made the right decision in doing so.

I do wonder if people will go back to work only when they're good and ready (and feel the risk is gone). Consider that we are, at a minimum, halfway or so into this shutdown. Good chance it's longer. In 2-3 weeks, money will start flowing to pay people to stay home. Guaranteed for 4 months to the unemployed. It's gonna be hard to put the workforce back together after this. New habits/lifestyles are going to form.

I guess what I'm saying is that I have a wife who can work from home for as long as it takes, and 3 young kids that I've actually grown to like a lot more these last 15 or so days. I don't like the anxiety of waiting to get sick, but lots of people are going to get used to this, and won't want to go all the way back. Some people live the flipside, of course. One of the guys I (used to) manage spent his savings on a mini Winnebago, and is basically living in our parking lot.

and not like anyone can really step into an office and do an interview right now anyway? or that many firms are hiring other than amazon delivery.... lots of hiring freezes right now

I certainly don't think things are going to go back to "normal," but I would wager that the changes in employment will trend more towards increased flexibilization and an offloading of the responsibility for labor reproduction onto the worker than it will towards empowering laborers. More of a "since you can work from home, we, the company, no longer need to pay for office space or broadband wifi, as that's your responsibility" situation.

I think there are a lot of people eager to get back to work too though. The sooner people are asked back, the more likely a short furlough doesn't turn into a permanent layoff. Or worse, the employer closes up shop permanently. 4 months of minimal financial security shouldn't outweigh that for most people but what do I know?

I don't disagree with any of that. I just think we're 2-3 weeks in, this will easily go another ~4 weeks. The longer it goes, the longer it takes to put back together. No doubt there will also be plenty of people itching to go back to work. Just wonder if we can put Humpty Dumpty totally back together again.

It's a two-tendon tear so they call it massive - supra and inter supra I think - both more than.5 cm retracted so that means not an operation by it's normal means . But within the last year or two the doctors came up with something surgery and in 2020 they fixed that fault with a repair they call the "sandwich" .
