My year was pretty disastrous, really. The Bataan Death March was my only real race and that was a clusterfuck. Then a bad hamstring tear and now I'm nursing the other hammy.

That being said, I should still get fairly close to 2K miles for the year and I'm pretty confident I can break 2:50 in the marathon in February.

I'll also probably hit the Death March again and hope they have their shit together this year.

I'm looking forward to running in the snow but will be cutting way back for a couple of months. Need time to fatten up so I can body-shame myself into marathon shape come spring.

I planned to run today, but like so many other days, work happened and blew a hole through that plan. I am now stuck with hoping for a Wednesday, Friday, Saturday schedule.

Yeah, I totally get that.

That's why I generally try to run in the morning.

If I run at night, I run at the gym. I think my vanity gets the best of me because my gym is always busy and I don't wanna look like shit and cut it short. I know that sounds silly, but I try to find motivation where I can.

I'm not big on headphones these days.

I like hearing my breathing pattern and matching my cadence to it.

Also, running with headphones on the canals and trails can be dangerous.

Cyclists (particularly MTBers) don't care if they run you down.

I have some Plantronics wireless ones that just kind of float in the ear canal and the band barely touches the back of my neck. Best of both worlds.

For me it's about paying attention to my technique. Being able to hear my footstep and not being distracted really helps me. But I am also always fighting my injuries, so if I didn't have those problems maybe it would be irrelevant. But I listen to a lot of music all day. It's kind of nice to take it in when I'm out there and just be in the moment.
